Marvellous recording, one of my all time favourite scores.

My copy arrived today. Wasn't too keen on track 4 "Drunken Vikings Song", otherwise it was Top Notch. Track 16 was my favourite (same track as the Video clip on the Tadlow website.
I wondered if the Extra track "Main Theme of Barabbas" implied a future re-record from Prometheus ?.

Don't forget "One Million Years BC" another Nascimbene score that I'm extremely fond of.
Silva, did a very nice suite from the film, which I have, but an extended version would be great.

Being relatively unfamiliar with Nascimbene, I’m curious whether the use of Schumann to orchestrate had the similar effect on Nascimbene’s score as Schumann arguably did on Jarre’s Lawrence.
The orchestrations are by Dutch-born English composer Gerard Schurmann. Schurmann, I'm convinced, contributed to some of the myriad harmonies that resplendently accompany the Viking theme as heard in "Ragnar Returns."
Orchestrator Leo Arnaud had in a similar way had a hand in the harmonization of Maurice Jarre's "Lara's Theme" for DOCTOR ZHIVAGO.
That's what orchestrators are called to do professionally. They often receive no film credit. THE VIKINGS credit reads "Music composed and arranged by Mario Nascimbene."
As for LAWRENCE OF ARABIA, Schurmann described his collaboration with Maurice Jarre as "stressful" in a famous Cue Sheet article, which can be found here, with an added final sentence:

James Fitzpatrick has replied to the Schurmann-Jarre conflict (in an interview with Roger Hall):
Yes, I do believe that from some rather vocal sources there has been the most unfair criticism. I do not want to particular re-open that debate except to quote from one of Maurice’s other orchestrators: "You'll be happy to see Maurice's original sketches at USC soon. Maurice wrote all of LAWRENCE, which is in his handwriting. Same with ZHIVAGO. I think that the original orchestrator maybe made a bit of a stretch to claim otherwise! The sketches say it all." As I say in my sleeve notes for LAWRENCE:
Over the years there has been much debate in the film music community over the role in general of orchestrators and what their influence might be on the final scoring of any movie. There has also been more specific (and often unduly heated) debate over the partnership on LAWRENCE of Maurice Jarre and Gerard Schurmann. It is well documented that they did not see eye to eye! I will leave it to other more qualified persons to debate this further...if they wish. All I can add is that Gerard Schurmann’s orchestrations are vivid, challenging and imaginative, whilst Maurice Jarre’s thematic material is truly inspired; and, as CD 2 will show, this melodic inspiration continued for the next 40 years of his career in film music.
My final thought on the matter is that around the same time Gerard Schurmann did the orchestrations for THE VIKINGS and EXODUS and yet doesn’t seem too concerned about his lack of credit for these two classic films?

Wow, what a wonderful recording. Action music sounds with fury and power, brass, especially horns, just shines - fantastic perfomance of classic score. Thanks to this recording now we can hear how great this composition is. Milions times better than awful sounding OST. My favourite is "Dance of Oars", which is extended and longer than in the film and sounds great, those trumpet is just cool, musicans definitelly have a good time during this recording.
My only complaint is that one of my favourite section from "Ragnar returns" is missing - I think about this moment from 0:49 till 1:15 in this track:

I always love those woodwinds, and then brass which beautifully leads till next "section" with flute melody... This wonderful 26 second section is included on all LP and CD releases of OST and it was also included on "Warriors lf Silver Screen" album, so I think it should be also here... it is sad that it is not here.
My rate for this album is 5/6.
