I too am a bit surprised by the choices. The excellent Mr. Phillips should've taken a poll here on what to include on the poll.

My issues with the three choices he gave are as follows:
1. Lionheart is one of my favorite Goldsmith scores and I would buy a rerecording in an instant, BUT...It's already been released, in complete form no less, and the sound quality is very good even if the performance admittedly has some issues. Why not concentrate on scores that don't survive at all, at least in complete form? This would seem to place it in the same lower-priority category as The Blue Max, which we know Mr. Fitzpatrick really wants to do. However, The Blue Max was recorded in the 60s and despite the rebuilt-from-the-ground-up LLL edition which is amazing, I could still understand having new appeal for people in modern sound quality, and unlike Lionheart the film is well-regarded and has had some exposure, and along with that Goldsmith's score is one of his most noticed and critically-acclaimed.
2. Lilies of the Field is a lovely score but the simple Amen theme, not written by Goldsmith, permeates it. I'm also unsure exactly how much of the score is unreleased (but it shouldn't be much), and the original LP album was recently reissued (again) by Perseverance with new mastering and notes, so has no rarity factor to create demand, as QB VII did (aside from the fact that the existing rare LP recording only contained a third of the score!) But if one is going to do a smaller score from Goldsmith's early period, why not tackle Black Patch, his very first film score (and certain to get some interest just because of that alone), which has never been released in any way because the tapes no longer survive? (And his third score, Face of a Fugitive, is in the same boat and would work well thematically to fill out the disc since it's also a small-scale western score.)
3. I voted for the Thriller scores in this poll, because I think they're not a bad first choice for Kickstarter, because the show has some name recognition/critical acclaim, and the costs for re-recording since the orchestras for these scores were small, would be manageable. HOWEVER, I am fairly certain that tapes of these DO exist, so still a lower priority to me compared to the other things on my wish list (and other people's) which I linked to above.
Lionheart will probably win the poll though, because it is an 80s fantasy score (even if it's historical rather than fantastical, it sounds like a fantasy score!) The problem is that the costs to record it will be so much higher compared to Thriller, and would it really sell that many more copies?
When I asked Mr. Phillips last year what his dream Goldsmith projects would be, he answered:
"I'm not sure how many scores are planned for the series - but, if I could pick anything, it would be one of three things:
. Complete Lionheart (the soundtrack performance is pretty poor)
. A CD of his scores for Thriller & Twilight Zone
. Orchestral realisation of one of his 'synth trilogy' scores (which maybe interesting, as he tended to write quite orchestrally for the keyboards on those projects) "
Of those three he left off the last one from the poll, which for me would have been the most compelling of the ones he was interested in, and it would also present the biggest opportunity to show off his orchestration chops as a Goldsmith fanatic. Perhaps he can enlighten us more as to why he substituted Lilies in the Field. I confess I don't remember too much missing music because the film was somewhat sparsely scored, but if I'm mistaken or if Goldsmith wrote more music (or different music, perhaps with not so much interpolation of Amen over and over), then I'd happily eat my words!

I wouldn't go so far as to say it's a waste of money. I'm sure we'd get a great recording. It's not like Beethoven's 5th symphony where we've got way too many recordings of an excellent work so that each new one feels totally useless.
However, I agree that in a market which is only able to support so many film music releases, there are far higher priorities to be recorded.
Therefore, I took it upon myself to create a new, unofficial poll at the same website:

I've been really interested in the comments relating to the short survey about a potential re-record and I was in no doubt that the scores listed would be the cause of some debate. That being said, as I alluded to in the paragraph at the start of the survey, the reasons for choosing the scores that are on the list are, pretty much, logistical ones. While I realise that these may not be everybody's 'first choices', they would be the ones that would prove the easiest to get off the ground by avoiding any unnecessary legal or 'access to suitable material' issues (eg. although Salamander was a takedown from DVD, it's not a way of working that's particularly great on the ears and not all scores maybe as 'edit free' as that one!).
Anyway, I hope that goes some way to clear up why certain choices have been made. It'll be interesting to see the results of your new poll, but there are several on that list that were seriously considered and passed over, purely because of some inherent difficulties attached to them.

Thanks for the info, Leigh! I certainly hope that those of these scores you allude to problems with are only difficult and not impossible to do at some point. What do you think of Babe? I absent-mindedly left it out of my new poll but the prospect of funding a never before heard (but at least 90% written!) Goldsmith score might just be the most exciting prospect of all!

P.S. As of now, Lionheart and Black Patch/Face of a Fugitive are neck and neck with a whole 2 votes each. No votes for any others, somewhat surprisingly.

Nice! Unexpected because Mr. Fitzpatrick had been acting like he'd given Barry his due with all of those Complete Rerecordings for Silva. This one's really good and the original tracks are supposed to be lost so I'm glad to see it.
Now at some point James had said there were two scores...will this be paired with another shorter Barry to fill out the disc?
