188) Scott M. (Oldsmith) in "Actor cuts off hand for jobs":

"I thought this said, "actor cuts off hand jobs..." I was all, "jeez way to disappoint your fellow actors."

Remember that thread that was titled "The Living Daylights coming next from LLL," based off of no evidence whatsoever beyond a hunch, and LLL responded within minutes saying, "It's not."

Ah, that was a great thread. We could use more bogus announcements like that, just to liven things up a bit, don't you think?

No? Okay, maybe not.

Enjoy all the wrongheaded, autistic screeching all over again.*

*I mean in the Living Dayights topic, not the Die Hard 3-disc announcement or the "How Big is Your Equipment?" thread.

189) Other Tall Guy in "Film Composers Who Can Sing...For Their Supper?"

"Jerry Goldsmith didn't have to sing for his supper because he just went to Outback."

https://www.filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?threadID=132161&forumID=1&archive=0&pageID=1&r=505#0

Any wiseacre who can summon the proud spirit of the "Does Jerry Goldsmith Eat at Outback Steakhouse?" thread AND out Tall Guy Tall Guy in one sentence earns my everlasting respect!

190) My hopefully-still-good-buddy wink jackfu twisting himself into a human pretzel in order to justify crap in "The Star Wars Holiday Special: 40th Anniversary":

"I guess I’m the oldest reviewer – I was 23 when it aired.

It came off as a possible “pilot” for a Saturday morning-type kiddie spinoff, ala Sid/Marty Kroft.

Really though, what chance did it have?

Expectations could likely never have been met - they couldn’t waste a legit “Episode” on a small-scale television special.

It had to be something to attract the kiddie audience and the casual, curious whom would never go to the theater to see it.

So, they added the new characters and videos and lowered the bar to appeal to all audiences and struck out with all of them.
I agree with Solium about it not being all bad; the cartoons were good.

I think Carrie Fisher sang quite well.

If you can’t bear to watch it, start it playing and listen to Fraser’s score while your eyes are busy with something else. I think he did a good job."

191) Tall Guy, after an extended period away from this topic, makes a stellar and useful return with the following from "Left-Field Job Interview Question":

"How would your work colleagues know you are stressed?"

"They wouldn't. They'd already be dead..."

("Brilliant - when can you start?")

Posted by Graham "Holiday" Watt in my Star Trek TNG thread

"I didn't see it (Star Trek) either, but just to make sure I'm thinking of the same show.... was there a main character (alien) in it with a forehead like a Mars Bar?

193) An ignorant, depressed, and now middle-aged Thor Haga in "Cheers!":

"Don't know nuttin' 'bout no Thanksgiving, but I'm going out with a few friends today to have a late celebration of my 41st birthday on Monday. Nothing to celebrate at this point in life, of course, but I never refuse an excuse to drink horrendous amounts of beers."

194) BillCarson tells it like it's always been when it comes to FSMers in "Would you accept the offer from Klaatu?":

"Yes klaatu said you have fearsome cyber warriors in basements with acid tongues and sarcasm, and you are dangerous and must not be allowed out due to your lack of social skills and non existent sense of humour." wink

195) Joan Hue channeling Thor (see #193) in the holiday depression department in "Hallmark Channel Christmas Films":

"Hallmark Christmas movies are always very predictable. There will be a happy-ever-after romantic ending, and some main character will finally discover the true meaning of Christmas.
Kitsch? Yep. Treacly? Yep. Rather cloying? Yep. Saccharine sweet? Always.

My brother tells me he loves them and watches them every Christmas. He said it is nice to get away from all the grit, grime, violence and ugliness that pervades so many movies. I understand that, and I watch a few each year. Now and then I need a dose of what I call Rocky-Cinderella Sentimentality and Positivity. Helps to round off or blunt those sharp edges of pervasive cynicism embraced by intellectuals." smile

It would seem that the holiday blues have gotten to a couple of FSMers--and it's only November.

Hmmm...maybe a subject worthy of its own thread.

196) paulhickling eloquently rhapsodizing about Katy Manning in "Happy Doctor Who Day!":

"Of course if you'd rather see her as a pot smoking lesbian here's Big Elephant, her episode of Target, the BBC's answer to The Sweeney produced by Tom Baker's first Producer Philip Hinchcliffe. Careful she gets her boobs out"(clip):https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_7_-iFcul0A
