My used copy of the 1st edition arrived, in good condition as promised.

I think I figured out why the Blu-ray did not include the colorized segments of "Miniature" as an optional feature. The 1984 colorization would have been created on video, and thus format-locked in SD, so there was no way to present it in HD without it looking noticeably "off."

I'd still want it. smile

Back in the eighties I poured over this book.... Didn't find in the least annoying,

I find that very annoying. mad wink

Btw, it's "pored over," unless you actually leaked bodily fluid on it. wink

I do agree that this book needs a update. Especially a section for the 1980's series and that of the newest one back in 2000's. Maybe just a separate book for the 80's series? By the way, did anyone ever watch the two episodes of Serling's lost scripts, The Theater and Where the Dead Are?

Hmm. Would like to see those two. And a separate book for the follow-up series not a compendium; TOS stands mightily on its own.

For the record, Second Edition does give a fair amount of space to the '85 Twilight Zone. Its not a full episode guide but its decent. Really the only things not covered in any detail (since the Adendum was written in 1989) are the awful 2002 series, the radio show (which is now the longest running version of Twilight Zone would you believe) and the pinball machine.

Yes I agree the 2002 series was horrible!! The only episodes I remember were the recreated ones like Eye of the Beholder and It's Still a Good Life. I think the combination of Beaumont, Serling and Matheson writing the scripts was a huge benefit for the original series. Just goes to prove that with better technology now does not bring better stories. I mentioned earlier about the two lost episodes, they were kind of turkeys and that's why they were lost. You can find it on a Region 2 DVD.

My stuff arrived, so I posed it for a group photo:

The VHS tapes are from the CBS Video Library. It was a mail order thing in 1988. They have nice liner notes, too.

The TZ Blu-ray came in the same Epik-Pak as Star Trek: The Original Series, and once again I had fun trying to get the discs out of that Medieval torture rack without flexing them too much. The trick is to press evenly on the hub with the flat, circular end of a pen cap. Your fingertips aren't hard enough. But even with the right kind of pen, it's tough going. Anyway the discs are out, and they are never going back on those murderous plastic hubs. I've got them all in white CD envelopes, the stack of which fits neatly back in the Epik-Pak with the rack removed. You should store all your discs vertically, btw.

Beyond that, I'm very happy with the set.

Author Steven Jay Rubin's book, The Twilight Zone Encyclopedia is listed on Amazon as having been published on November 1, 2017. Any of the resident TZ experts read it yet?

Does the "SyFy" station still do those TZ New Year's Eve marathons? Perhaps this thread will get a nibble then. smile

Otherwise this is ok even if it's got some major errors and has really, really, REALLY needed a 3rd edition since 2003.

Having only the first edition, this 3rd might be for me. If it covers the movie and the first two revival series, that's enough additional content to justify the double dip.

Obviously, this is coming too soon to chronicle the third revival series that Jordan Peele is producing for CBS All Access, but that's a show I might never see.

Second edition already covered the movie and 80s series. That leaves:

Rod Serling's Lost Classics
TZ 2002
The radio show
The comic books
The aborted second movie
The upcoming Jordan Peele revival

He also did the James Bond Encyclopedia which is
really NOT worth getting. Its just an alphabetical index of everyone and everything in the series. No real commentary or insight.
Thus, I assume the TZ book will not be of much value ,except to hardcore researchers. imho
brm

True, but on the other hand, that's all an encyclopedia is supposed to be--just statement of fact and little or no opinioneering.
