Wow indeed.
While this may not be the score Kamen would have wrote if he had lived long enough to finish it frown I think it may be the score his fans would have most wanted as an end result.
It's almost like a Greatest Hits compilation wrapped up in 'new score' material.
I grinned like a kid as the Robin Hood-like Main Title kicked in and to hear the Flying music from Hudson Hawk in an all-new guise was tremendous. It's like a James Horner score but for a valid reason wink
Anyone on the fence about this, because of the arranger/orchestrator aspect of it, should jump off and take the leap. You won't hear a more Michael Kamen sounding score this side of Roadhouse. Also, the notes make a fine tribute to Mr Kamen. The bit about the orchestra players keen to perform with their best instruments is just lovely.
Highly recommended!!

Finally got this and its every bit as good as i'd hoped.I've been enjoying RENEGADES a lot recently and the GAYA score is like the other side of the Kamen coin in all its spectacular orchestral glory. Like many composers no longer with us, the joy of hearing this is also balanced with a bit of sadness that there will never be any more new Michael Kamen music. Wonder what kind of stuff he'd have done in todays film market with its 'soundscape' pressures.
Thanks for the release folks!

This one is spectacular! It makes you realise how good this guy was. And congrats to MSM because my other favorite listen this year (so far) is 'Man to Man' from the same people. You guys are doing one hell of a job!

Hey, world, this is a wonderful score. I love it. Great "last score of Michael Kamen". I am so glad this one was finally released and I hope there are more Kamen's to come.

Yes, we must thank MOVIESCORE MEDIA for releasing this. This is a score that has been getting a lot of playtime since its release. I am hoping some of the labels have some unreleased Kamen in the pipeline.

If you study the liner notes closely, you'll find that Kamen did not write more than some sketches for this film before he died. The score is more a tribute of his orchestrators to Kamen. With lots of influences from his older scores like Robin Hood.

Yes, that's why I have "last score of MK" in quotes. But it seems like they found unused material from MK and used that for the score. Anyway, the music sounds great, and I think it has the Kamen touch.

That is true, but I am not sure it's all that different from a lot of scores written by living composers where in fact a dozen orchestrators and additional composers co-write and ghostwrite music that in the end still is attributed to the main composer.

Nor is it that different from when it happens in classical music -- Mozart's Requiem is perhaps the most famous case, but there's many more.

I've been on a Michael Kamen kick since receiving Intrada's expanded ROBIN HOOD: PRINCE OF THIEVES a couple of weeks back. I bought BACK TO GAYA when it first came out, spun it a couple of times, and put it away in the vault, where it has been languishing for the last five or so years. I pulled it out again this morning, re-read the moving liner notes, and I have to say I enjoyed it more than I did before. There are some tracks that follow the action closely, and so suffer from "Mickey Mousing," but the rousing big thematic moments more than make up the difference. It was especially fun, after spending a couple of weeks intensively listening to ROBIN HOOD, to be reminded of Kamen's early thematic idea that was rejected for the ROBIN HOOD main theme. Kudos again to Mikael Carlsson and the Moviescore Media team for making this happen in 2012.

I bought a copy of this score just before Christmas. I second your observations. It's a delightful and yes, rousing score. You mention the liner notes which I found to be a very touching tribute to this wonderful man. The kudos are well deserved.
