Yeah I wish Popular would duff the Phantom mask, speaking as one who loves trivia, knowing who's who, that sort of thing. Not saying this with any animosity, just curious. He is always here to defend Varese without fail, and my identity guessing via album credits isn't working!
Again, not saying this with any malice, just someone who's plowed thousands into the label for nearly 35 years now.

Perhaps they will go back and restore the dulcimer on "The Thorn Birds". Doubtful but it would be nice.
That'll be the day! By the way Mr. Phillippe, I purchased the Thorn Birds: A Case Study Of A Film Score when it first came out and I read through it quite often. Always wanted to say thank you so much for putting this great book together, and guiding Mr. Mancini's concept over the finish line. How great it would be if similar books were written spotlighting a score by Williams, Goldsmith, Morricone, Legrand and others......
Thank you for your kind words. It was quite an experience working on it. It took 6 years from start to publication. I got the green light on March 17, 1998 and it was released May 4, 2004.
I had Mancini's text but finding his sketches and scores was a long process as they were scattered at various storage facilities. I loved every minute working on it. It would be wonderful to have similar books by the composers you mention but the text has to come first.

If they are still manufacturing vinyl these days then I'm sure CDs will be just fine for a long long time.
And hopefully, a little bit faster before CD plants stop manufacturing, pretty please....

Probably more likely that Townson was killing the cash cow and they jettisoned him to get things moving. Every label ran circles around Varese for the past 15 years. It's a shame, as Varese is responsible for getting most of us into film music in the first place.

Maybe, but with only 3 "Club" batches being released this year, it doesn't seem like they are doing anything different this year. Unless they plan to put out more new/current releases, but they hasn't been one of their weak traits lately.

That's true, although this might be something of a transition year and they could still make each batch larger than the usual 3-4 titles (there have been a few times we got bigger batches than that).

That's a good point, I hadn't noticed that they wrote first of three. Hopefully they continue to release expanded releases, but have "special" Club releases on top of those maybe?
