WA, I actually love a lot of Jerry's synths (Damnation Alley is one example...The 'Burbs is another), and there are others I've learned to love, still others I've learned to accept (the synth "farts" in the otherwise amazing latter two Rambo scores, for example). I even enjoy the synths in S*P*Y*S, one of Jerry's most reviled scores (even by fans). But there are some I'm still working on and the early stuff in Logan's Run fits there...at least until I give it another try!

....and NOW.... back to the ORIGINAL question!big grinbig grinbig grin

But seriously, I'm not aware of there being ANY synths in Magic!

I might have mistook one or more instruments as synths, mostly because I'm so used to working with and programming them I hear horn-esque and stringy patches a lot. Some are not terribly far away from the real thing...that is of course, keeping in mind the lesser expressiveness of synthesizers in general (ESPECIALLY compared to orchestral instruments and the human voice).

Fairly off topic, but I had mixed feelings about synths in general back when I first started hearing them (I think it was "Rainbow Rising"). That lasted into the 80s and 90s (my Metal phase). That's excepting what Carpenter and Morricone did with them (Escape From New York, The Thing, etc.). Huge fan of those last movies and music.

In fact, it wasn't until I heard Dark Knight Rises that I not only started really recognizing the broader worth of synths, and began intensive study. Yet, despite having been through a year long synth "phase" (with plenty of sub bass fart patches and rezzy beats galore) I kept coming back to the orchestra time and again. No matter what advances are made in technology re synths and samples, I believe it's impossible to replace the symphony orchestra.

Woo, that was a lot of hot air! Sorry, folks.
