justin, if you get a reply, maybe cut and paste the relevant posts then mr fried will get to see how much hes appreciated ..without the unecessary attitude of the messenger.
"Also, TERROR IN A TEXAS TOWN. They ran out of money, and asked me to score the entire movie with three players (Robert Duvall on trumpet, William Kraft on percussion, and Laurindo Almeida on guitar). I played oboe, making it four."
Given our own brilliantly-belated ** Appreciation ** for Mr. Fried's incomparable and revelatory music for "Roots", this thread fairly BEGS for a wider re-read audience.
"Collision of the Planets" is his masterpiece. Everything in his career was leading up to that magical moment. It is one of the greatest scores of all time.
Is there anyone who might be able and willing to put me in touch with Mr. Fried? I've lived in the same town as him (Santa Fe) for over five years now and it looks likely that I'll be leaving it a few months from now to join the Peace Corps...it would be nice to meet him and let him know how much I appreciate his work before I do. My email is moradi (dot) yavar (at) gmail (dot) com if any kind soul is inclined to put me in touch.

Ah, well you should have done this a bit quicker. Mr. Fried moved earlier in the year to be closer to his family in Connecticut

Happy New Year Yavar! Why not try to send him an email in care of the email address in the first post of this thread? - they can possibly forward it for you.
Sadly that gentleman has passed away. Looks like I missed my chance and I really should've spoken up more than a year ago when it first occurred to me.
