Cheers and Merry Christmas to my fellow imbibers which I suppose just means you, Thor.

Not just you two. I enjoyed a few of these tonight as part of the holiday celebrations:

Happy Drinking!

Merry Christmas, everyone!

I bought a lot of delicious beer, but alas, I don't think I'll be able to drink much of it. I've come down with a severe case of bronchitis this last week, so I've mostly just taken cough syrup with morphine. frown

I’ll be having a few tonight while I ponder the age old festive mystery: how can a glorified Sunday dinner cost so much?

Do fill is in on the specifics of what you drink, old stick. What what England expects! Spirit of the thread and all that rot.

Well, as you asked, prosecco with a dash of cassis, some homemade mulled wine, and a beer or three, the make of which I don’t recall but they were dark and called “Christmas Beer”. I have a feeling there was more but it eludes me for the moment.

The report is appreciated, TG. Strange that whenever you mention visiting with friends or other dignitaries, I always picture the house I lived in back in the '70s...odd. I also make more typos in this thread than in any other, and I always post when sober.

TG's post marks 700 posts in this thread most fine! We drink on, despite the "conteibutions" of the hypocritical pot-smoking hippie types and puritanical alleged non-drinkers posting from the safety of their parents' attic or basement.

Cheers!

First post for 2018! How can this be? wink

I have recently acquired a bottle of 12 year Colombian rum, "Ron Medellin", as well as a 3 year bottle "Ron Viejo de Caldas", which tastes like banana walnut bread.

There's also a six-pack of Guinness Extra Stout in bottles hanging around...don't know when I'll be getting to any of this, though my upcoming 20th wedding anniversary is in May.

Cheers!

Congratulations Jim. But it's in May. And today's Friday.

I've had two drinking days in a row now. Last night was an evening with fellow film critic colleagues. Tonight was a quiz with old-school friends. Regular beers all around; I can't afford to drink specialty beers on the town anymore. Cripes, I'm still drunk as f***ck.

Over the weekend, I treated myself to a bottle of Guinness. While it was enjoyable as always, I couldn't help but notice the difference between bottled Guinness and the Heaven-in-a-Glass that is a draught Guinness. The latter is much smoother and less bitter. This is more of an observation than a complaint, however, because I rather like bottled Guinness, but it doesn't compare to the draught stuff at my local Irish pub (which is where I'll be spending Easter this Sunday). Still, I've had beers where the disparity in quality is significant. Ao much so that I would never again touch the bottled version of what was a magnificent draught beer.

Wish I could acquire the craving for stouts like Guinness (or Kilkenny), but I never really have. I think I can handle about one pint over the course of an evening -- as a dessert or something -- but that's about it.

I like a Guinness with the appropriate meal. Two is my limit no matter what beer it is. I know from your posts that you often exceed two beers. wink

He, he....yeah, that's putting it mildly. Give me smooth, Belgian blondes and I can keep it going into double digits. Easily. Perhaps break it up a few times with a good IPA, Ale or even Pilsner. No fruity Geuze nonsense, though.

I'll admit that I'm the type to "nurse" a beer, but I'm really just savoring it. smile It's a filling beverage, which is another reason I tend to severely moderate my intake. It's amusing to see everyone loading up like crazy to keep up with one another at a pub get together.

If I'm drinking a specialty beer (and not a store-bought Pilsner or Lager), I'm 'nursing' it too -- to savour all the flavours. I just do it quicker than most; especially those that are not accustomed to beer drinking. A friend of mine is the same in regard to red wine. I drink red wine (and to a lesser degree white wine) much slower than most people, if I drink it at all. I tend to avoid it due to the high level of acid, which my hernia can't deal with.

If it's a warm summer day, beer goes down quicker than water.

Don't you have enough Scandinavians?

Thor, what local beers do you have? Are their breweries near you? (sorry if this has been asked)

There's lots of microbreweries in the city i live in, so i wondered if you had the same there.

Oh yes, plenty of micro breweries in Oslo and Norway at large. In fact, Norwegian micro is very "hot" internationally these days. Here's one on many articles on the subject: http://travelsquire.com/norways-mighty-microbreweries/

My favourite IPA is actually Norwegian -- Haandbryggeriet's "Fyr & Flamme" (directed translated as "Fire & Flame").

Thanks, Thor! Great article with a nice bit of a history lesson, too.

In order to escape my in-laws and retain my relative sanity, Easter dinner will be just my missus and I at our favorite Irish pub, (which is run by actual Irish folk) where they're having some kind of special dinner menu. We spent the previous Thanksgiving at this pub, and they cook a fine spread, indeed. I expect draught Guinness will be my libation of choice, much to most of your chagrin I'm sure.

Ha, ha...no, not at all. Enjoy!

For the first time in many years, I'm not traveling back to my home town for Easter, but staying alone in Oslo. Today, I had a long walk in the winter sun, cleaned the apartment, dished up a homemade pizza from scratch, and am now enjoying a lovely IPA from local brewery Grünerløkka Brygghus:

I also have a couple of Belgian beers, as well as some regular pilsners lined up. Hopefully, it will last me through the evening -- otherwise, I have to crack open the over-sweet Polish liqeur I got at the Krakow film music festival a few years ago.
