Looking forward to getting the details, Jim.

This is the cognac I'm currently delving into:

My version is 10 years old!

I won't break into this until the weekend, but I picked up a bottle of Bacardi Gran Reserva 8 AƱos Rum. The package reminds me of how Listerine mouthwash used to be packaged, but the positive reviews from friends and online reviews persuaded me to give this rum a try.

Broke into the Bacardi and it's a huge disappointment. Must remember to feed it to in-town FSMers who don't share my love of Woody Allen, Jerry Fielding, and DC Comics films.

Drink up, Wanderer! wink

Never been into Rum, to be honest (although I do have some Bacardi remants somewhere).

I'm on my second "solo binge" tonight, after yesterday's stint. Had 6 beers, one of which was a 10% Chimay Blue. Might delve into the aforementioned cognac again.

Well, I do live in a subtropical part of the world and today is 86F/29C, so rum is what the doctor (who) ordered. wink

I don't drink cognac unless it's around the Christmas holidays. smile

My dad is a cognac lover (at least he was before his podagra issues), with hundreds of fancy bottles stored in a secret location, so I'm sure I've inherited some of that. It's the only 'brown licor' I can appreciate fully.

I only just now noticed this. Really? Hundreds? But even more fascinating..."stored in a secret location"? What's the story behind this?

He, he...it sounds more exotic than what it actually is. My dad has been a cognac collector for years, and he used to store his bottles on shelves in the basement. But after they had a break-in awhile back, he moved them to a more hidden location within the house. They're obviously worth a lot of money.

But I think he's mostly stopped buying them now, after the podagra issues.

Phew! Partially saved. Love Woody, love Jerry, not into DC Comics films. How much of that crap do I have to drink as a punishment?

And Jim, for a man who lives in Florida, you do seem to keep very British hours. Are you sure you don't live in Bognor Regis? There's a beach there too.

You're not overly "Star Warsie" in your enthusiasms, so just drink enough of the stuff to be a happy "potato." wink

Well, I adore you Brits as you no doubt know, but I also suffer from insomnia and average at best 5-6 hours o' sleep at night.

Heading out for a birthday party at Norwegian composer Eirik Myhr's place tonight. Been gearing up with a few beers (my hernia has basically cut off all wine drinking), and will be off soon.

Got any plans, folks?

I attended a colleague's wedding last week and lived on Gin and Tonics--it was amusing to me that the seal of the large bottle of Beefeater was cracked open "just for me" and that I kept returning to the same bar station to watch the bottle's contents gradually drop with each drink I ordered, as it was apparent that I was the lone Gin drinker among a crowd of 200+ guests.

Your own little oasis!

After I was diagnosed with a big hernia last year (and additionally gained a lot of weight over the last couple of years), drinking isn't as fun as it used to. In other words, I don't have the same energy anymore. But I keep pushing on whenever I get the chance. Downed 7 beers in my lonesome just last night, and tonight, I'll be having some white wine and a few beers as well, including the brilliant Haandbryggeriet Fyr & Flamme, which IMO is the best IPA in Norway.

There's supposed to be Eurovision on tonight, I hear, but I haven't been invited to any parties. So might as well stay home and watch the remainder of my TWIN PEAKS walkthrough in preparation of the upcoming season.

There's a European--mostly Russian and Eastern European, actually--market near me that I frequent. They sell a variety of European beers, mostly mainstream European stuff, but I'm not much of a beer drinker though I like to try the occasional bottle of something. I base it on the label! If the label has a historic or cultural/traditional look to it, I'll buy a bottle to have with the appropriate meal.

As I've mentioned before in this thread, I am a Fernet Branca devotee and this weekend I am celebrating a personal triumph of sorts with The Bitter.

I was also pleased to see that Michael Caine's Alfred Pennyworth character was One of the Anointed, as he mentions the stuff in The Dark Knight Rises.

Fernet-Branca! You're so hipster, Jim! wink

Having a few beers at my friend's place tonight, but I'm taking it easy as I have some busy days ahead. Zimmer concert in Oslo tomorrow, and then I'm off to Cannes on Sunday.

I was afraid you'd say that! wink South Florida is far from the two major Branca-consuming areas: Argentina and San Francisco, and my discovery of the stuff was via Fernet Stock, a Czech fernet I tried before the Branca.

I expect a full report from the Zimmer show. Let me know if he performs anything from Man of Steel. smile

It's Friday again! I'm going to celebrate by drinking six bottles of Lenda Galega white wine paintstripper (still less than one euro each) mixed with laxatives, then dump uncontrollably over my collection of terrible old Dimitri Tiomkin scores!

Anyone care to join me? Not in the same room of course...

The lads I used to work with and play footy on a Sunday with still have a twice yearly footy day out (first Saturday in June and December) so tomorrow, I'm off to the Pen & Wig pub in town (near the Pier Head) for 1-00 o clock to have some fun.
We drink, chat, rib, bet and reminisce until we fall off one by one.
I'm gonna try and make it to still be out for the Champs League final (8-00 kick-off), although how much I'll see of it is subject to booze!
Cheers!

I have some beers in my fridge, but after drinking heavily for weeks now (both before Cannes, in Cannes and after Cannes), I might want to use the opportunity to tone it down this weekend when I have no invitations to anything. I know there will be lots next week (and weekend) again; with a stag party trip and whatnot. But who knows....I might succumb to temptation. I usually do.
