Drinking is the name of the game these days!

A couple of weeks ago, I had two weeks of drinking in Cannes (including three hardcore party nights). Then there was a weekend with Friday and Saturday both absorbed in sloshed mischief. And then -- right now -- I'm at the Norwegian Short Film Festival in my hometown of Grimstad (in the South of Norway) with all the major film folks of our country, and having a blast. Currently on my 10th beer; lots more to come. And then there are more parties when I return to Oslo and throughout the summer.

Don't be alarmed, though. I have control. I don't drink (or very rarely) during the weekdays. It's all jammed into the weekends.

In any case....cheers!

I hope you had a horrible time. I'm sitting here drinking a cup of hot water with nettles in it, feeling miserable, but proud of the fact that I didn't go out last night and have a good time.

Chatted with friends, played pool ( won three games and handed the last to my loser so I could be sociable ), chatted with friends, drank more, chatted with a couple of beautiful girls from London who looked aghast when I told them I was nearly 30 years older than they were, a nice ego boost but I think they were just being kind. wink

Back home, a last can, bed, g'night.

It's Independence Day weekend so the Mrs. and I are celebrating with a trip to the Mai-Kai restaurant tonight. Looking forward to it. Happy Fourth of July to my fellow FSMers, American or not. smile

This is just another lazy Sunday up here; nothing to celebrate. But I've been drinking every day now for one week and a half (summer holiday w/family at our summer house in Denmark), and it'll probably be lots more in the weeks to come.

I don't know who that is (I saw the first season of the show before I jumped ship), but not that many movie screenings planned in the next few weeks. Better to enjoy REAL LIFE for a while with beer drinking, parties, bicycle trips, jogging, dinners and socializin'.

I hate jogging too (and all kinds of exercise, really, except the odd ball sport), but I need to squeeze a couple in there between fatty dinners and beers and desserts.

Next week is the end of the summer school (work) semester, so after the grades are submitted I am off for most of August! To celebrate a bit early, I picked up a bottle of Fernet Branca and am currently enjoying a Fernet and Coca-Cola. Fernet is a love-it-or-hate-it thing, and I am in the former camp. There's a nostalgia to the bitter, menthol-like flavor...almost like patchouli oil. Whatever the case, I really have acquired the taste for Fernet Branca.

I'm afraid I belong in the 'don't like it' category. There aren't a lot of hard licors that I really like, and especially not the sweeter kind. But hey -- anything to wind down!

I'm taking it easy tonight after a wild party night yesterday (that included balconies, rosé wine, karaoke, intimate relations with a girl, almost losing my bike and getting home 6:30 this morning). I'm insanely hung over today.

I don't care much for vodka, bourbon; heresy if one is American, I suppose...and largely prefer red wine, rum, and a few liqueurs.

Beer is nice on occasion when accompanying a meal but I don't care for its bloating effects. I also never drink more than one.

I still have a bottle of Pilsner Urquell in the fridge but I haven't yet had a meal to go with it.

Thor, is there a "national drink" of Norway (other than beer) that is popular or widely known?

Ah, I see that it is Akevitt, a kind of schnapps; I'll have to look for it.

Aquavit is OK, but in smaller doses. And usually around Christmas (interestingly, it's clear in Denmark and Sweden, but brown in Norway). Of brown licors, I prefer Cognac. Maybe a whisky now and then, but brown licor isn't really my thing.

I'm first and foremost a beer guy (I rarely drink LESS than 10 at a time), alternatively wine now and then.

Of the cocktails, I have a hankering for Mojito. Occasionally strawberry daccharies. And on a rare occasion, a Bloody Mary. But again, not primarily my thing.

The Czech liqueur Becherovka has that essence of Christmas and cool weather; I'm pretty sure it was present in the mulled wine I drank during my visit to Prague. I like the stuff that has a long tradition--I'm an old fogey at heart--and steer clear of the "youth"-oriented drinks, though the aforementioned Fernet Branca is apparently popular in San Francisco among the Millennial hipster crowd.

Them Belgians! They could have used this in WATERWORLD.

I go to Ghent (and Belgium) every year for beer and the World Soundtrack Awards. A couple of years ago, we went to a brewery outside Ghent that was located close to a cemetary. According to the tour guide, they tapped water from the cemetery to be used in the beer because the protein richness was so good or something; but I think it must have been a joke.

Are you sure they're ladies? You checked under the hood, right? Then apparently you havent told them about your hobby. Women send wedding proposals to serial killers jailed for life, but tell them you're into soundtracks and it's sayonara.
