Now that it's warming up in The Bay Area, DavidinBerkeley, any significant sightings?

It's been all over the map, temperature-wise, so I have to be on the lookout.

That said, the hemlines do seem to be rising, so there's hope. Thank you for asking. wink

Now if I can just learn when the local fraternities do their hazing "dares"....

Whew! I was afraid this thread would be about something unseemly...like regrets for having switched to thongs.

I've often wondered, Ron...is that you in your avatar? Hubba hubba. razz

LOL...just read this.

Yep, that's me circa 1976.

I've been doing my part but it is impossible to find short shorts anywhere. The one place I haven't yet looked is the thrift stores but I would have to go to them in the right neighborhood.

I've frequently complained to store clerks that the shortest shorts they sell are down to my knees. I have a pair of really short jean shorts that I made from cutting up some old jeans but they aren't the right material for hot weather.

The stores that do seem to sell them (online) charge $40 for a pair even when they aren't made of much material. What is a guy to do?

Funny this topic should pop up now. A new pair of shorts is exactly what I'm going to buy tomorrow! I don't like them too short, though. Must cover my knees.

"....(shorts) must cover my knees." Those are called 'pants', Thor. Or save your Euros and just pull your existing pants up really high.wink

Yeah, I too thought, when I opened this, that it would be about short films. Some of the ones I continue to long to have on DVD include the ballet rehearsal done to the Francois Paillard recording of Pachelbel's Canon, those delightful clips to the bouncy "Hooked on Classics," and a satire on Ingmar Bergman with hilarious subtitles, all of which I have on VHS, but are now needles in haystacks.

As for shorts in men's attire, who ever made the decision to change basketball shorts to those baggy things that hang down practically to one's ankles???

After scouring every imaginable store in Oslo yesterday, I did NOT find the shorts I was looking for -- dark, 3/4 cargo shorts. Apparently, that's gone completely out of fashion.

Oh well, guess I have to order online.

I don't look good in regular shorts. I don't have the body for that.

Making any headway, Thor?

Really. This is one of those threads that are way too silly for me to be interested in. And here I am!

For me, when I'm on holiday somewhere warm, usually Greece or Spain, I wear shorts. But if it's one thing I hate it's boxer shorts for dipping in the water. I absolutely HATE! the sensation of water trickling down the legs afterwards and being so soggy. So, it's brief style trunks for that, which dry very quickly in the sun, and shorts over the top for walking around etc.

NO!!! Don't listen to this Thor. Of all the things that we Brits find so funny at you yanks murdering OUR language it's when you call trousers PANTS! LOL!

Pants are what you wear UNDER your trousers. Every time US made show or film has people going on about "that guy's pants" etc.. we have a chuckle because it sounds like they're talking about him in his underwear. Ha, ha, ha...

Sincere apologies to our colonial cousins but this really is one of those niggly little things that come along once in a while. We speak the same language mm?

Oh, and another thing. I too thought this was a thread about the short films that used to be produced for cinema programs in the thirties! I'm used to the word since I'm a big Laurel and Hardy fan (attending this month's Sons of the desert meeting this very evening), and their best films were the classic 'shorts' such as The Music Box.

The kind of thread that's too silly to involve myself in, and I've posted THREE times already!

I'm in Brats (Sheffield, UK). Oasis 80 (Foundered 1988). Last night we had our monthly meeting.

We watched Putting Pants on Philip, The Bohemian Girl, and Helpmates. The Operettas aren't the most popular films at our meetings, but you can't fail when accompanied by a classic like Helpmates. And of course the silents are great for starting the evening. No one minds when some people are still arriving, 'cause there's no dialogue to spoil!

I've been attending since the very second meeting, with a break in the nineties after moving house. I started again when a friend wanted to host a charity L&H film evening. I got in touch with our tent with a view to showing him how they did it, and have been going again regularly since then, around 2007. We have been holding L&H charity evenings every year since then too, in my local pub, raising a lot of money for very worthy causes. Our last one was a couple of weeks ago where we raised £800 for a local helicopter based ambulance service.

One more thing. I also visit, every year, Stan's home town of Ulverston on the edge of the British Lake District, which hosts a Carnival every year. The Lord Mayor's Parade includes Sons from around the country, with banners flying. A great day is had by all, especially with the L&H Museum, the boys' statues outside the town hall paid for by the Sons, and naturally some revelling in The Stan Laurel Inn with it's fine beers from the Ulverston Brewery (also worth a visit with it's brewing vessels named Stan and Ollie!), most of which are L&H themed.

All in all, a pretty active Tent! And before anyone complains I've hijacked this thread, I can't believe they gave me a great excuse last night in choosing a film that ties in perfectly. Putting PANTS on Philip!

Last weekend I saw a small group of non-gay men jogging on the sidewalk. Their shorts were much like the 70's.

Shorts are coming back!!
