Although the onscreen title of the film was Dr. Seuss' HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS, all of the promotional materials for Ron Howard's 2000 live-action adaptation of the tale merely referred to it as THE GRINCH. Rance Howard played the Elderly Timekeeper in the film. The soundtrack album from Interscope Records used the film's full title, however, where James Horner's score shared space with various songs.

In the 2004 remake of THE ALAMO, Rance Howad played Governor Henry Smith , who was the first American-born Governor of the Mexican territory of Texas, and briefly presided over the revolution there, serving during the Battles of the Alamo, Goliad, and San Jacinto. The 2004 film was directed by John Lee Hancock. Carter Burwell's score was released by Hollywood Records.

CINDERELLA MAN was about the life of boxer Jim Braddock, played by Russell Crowe, a comeback fighter who writer Damon Runyon dubbed the "Cinderella Man." Director Ron Howard recalled that his father, actor Rance Howard, who plays fight announcer Al Fazin in the film, had listened to the 1935 Braddock-Baer bout on the radio as a boy with his father.
"We didn't have a radio; we went to a pool hall in Dexter, Kan., six miles from our farm," Rance Howard said. "There were about 100 people there, they had the radio high up, and we all just stood around and listened.
Everybody there, farmers, carpenters, working men, were all pulling for Braddock," the elder Howard remembered.
Thomas Newman's score for the 2005 film was released by Decca.
