He did NOT seem like he was that jerk that some of you guys remembered him to be.
Funny you say that because its true.
A couple of years ago, Keir Dullea made an appearance for a Q&A after a showing of 2001: A Space Odyssey. For many years, I'd heard he was a curmudgeon and cantankerous and very "Go away kid, you bother me."
Funny enough, he was not only very hospitable during the Q&A (and answering my badly worded question about Alex North's music), but he stayed behind and was signing ticket stubs. I had the foresight to bring a Sharpie and my bluray of the film and when he asked me who to make it out to, he asked me how to spell my name - "Is that with an I or an E? I can't spell, thats why I went into acting." - and on the whole was totally the opposite of what I'd heard for thirty years prior.
Sometimes you just catch a person on the right / wrong day.
I was an extra on the set of Almost Blue with Yaphet Kotto and Michael Madsen. I was sitting at the bar in the background. They seemed like pretty normal folks to me.
And I once delivered the morning newspaper to Quinton Tarantino at his hotel room. It was really early, he was standing there at his door, and I was like, this is really strange.
