Playing the whole thing this morning, as it arrived yesterday. Is it just me or does each main title theme sound slightly distorted? The rest of the music doesn't. Great package, MV. Good job.

My thoughts on the set are that it is pretty spectacular, which I had hoped it would be. I loved the first one but, in some respects, this feels more like a first round release. It just covers so much more of, what I consider to be, the quintessential moments of the series. It really plays like a best of and is such a great reminder as to what was so good about the series. I completely agree with the forward looking program hitting season 1-5 a lot harder than 6-9. I know Snow continued to evolve and bring his A-game throughout, but the show sadly didn’t always follow suit. And as a huge fan of both it’s hard for me to separate the two and, as such, the music suffers a little for me as I recall something ridiculous or frustrating that didn’t quite work in the series. It seems that a good portion of my requests made this release so I suppose that also helps in regards to my positive thoughts on it. Not everything mind you. As others have stated, and I stated when talking about Volume 1, the omission of the Mulder/Scully theme from Redux, Part 2, either in the hospital scene that opens the episode or in the Mulder at Scully’s bedside scene, is pretty shocking. I thought it felt like the only surprise not there for Volume 1 and, now that the episode is actually presented, I have to say it’s downright baffling. Has me wondering if Snow even wrote it and if there’s rights issues or something. The same goes for finding the stiletto at the cabin in Talitha Cumi. But, alas, that’s its own long post for another thread. Young at Heart: just brilliant stuff here. I had requested the track “Youth” and it’s everything I would have hoped it would be. But then La La Land includes “Shot in the Crowd,” something not even on my radar and just a spectacular surprise. There was quite a lot of that in fact. Born Again, an episode I had written off, fantastic music. Same goes for “Newborn” from Home. Not sure why I never asked for this one more vehemently because it is wonderful. “Yappi,” and The Red And The Black selections. That piano work is stellar and I’m so thrilled it’s included. And thank you, thank you! for including “Outmined” - that one is a holy grail and there is a lot of instrumentation detail I am finding the more I listen. Same goes for “Map of the Genome.” This may be what that previous poster was mentioning when they indicated confusing track titles. I was worried and baffled that the episode ender with Scully finding the spaceship would not be there, but it is indeed the track. And it plays great on loud speakers! Track lengths are perhaps a bit too epic on this release for my tastes. Certainly would not have minded having “Faith to Keep Looking” and the final music in “Lil’ Cabin in Quebec” to be more easily accessible. Overall this is an amazing release. I’ve always felt that every season is deserving of a CD’s worth of music. At 8 discs, that puts X-Files not quite there. Obviously for this series I’d take it to every last cue of music. So it’s exciting that the wait for Volume 3 will potentially be less than the 2 years and 4 months of this release. I certainly welcome it. Also kudos on the liner notes. After what I am sure felt like an exhaustive look in Volume 1, it probably isn’t easy to tackle it again, finding new and interesting information and analysis. Release of the year for me. Thanks La La Land!
