Ron, if you are happy with the Harkit CD then fair enough, personally I find it sounds somewhat flat, and as I said, it is far from complete, so thanks, I will indeed continue to hope for my grail release of this score. Peter, I am well aware this DVD may be disappointing, in which case it will have been a cheap way of getting what costs much more from other sources, but if it is as promised, I.e.: a proper DVD in widescreen, I will be a very happy camper. Time will tell. Mike

Time will tell. Mike And yet, I'm unconvinced that the album ... is far from complete.... Having known the album so well (as stated above: it was the album which drove me to see the film) I'm sure I would have spotted significant portions of music omitted. Whatever, I'd love to see a proper release of the score. I haven't bothered with the Harkit release as I did not expect it to offer anything better than the Artemis release ... perhaps my mistake. Though looking at IMDb I don't think so ... http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0071438/board/nest/19000773?ref_=tt_bd_2 As for the film: please, please a good quality w/s DVD and/or BD. I did own that rare VHS release many years ago but it has long since gone and I don't think the film has been aired in the UK for 20 or more years. From numerous memorable scenes, I truly love the sequence in which Patti (the gorgeous Deborah Raffin) hears that a small boat is coming into port after fearing that Robin (Joseph Bottoms) has been lost in the storm. The cinematography is fabulous ... and I can't recall whether it was scored or left music-free! Mitch

MusicMad: Re: "...the gorgeous Deborah Raffin" As of this Thursday she will have been gone a full year. She was so lovely and such a delight in "The Dove." Only 59. So sad.

Well my Australian DVD of The Dove arrived today, and despite arriving in a sealed case with nicely printed insert and disc label, as suspected/predicted, it's a DVDR transfer of the old laserdisc, which is at least better than a transfer of the VHS tape. The downside is that (obviously) it's a con, as it clearly states on the website and on the case that it is in widescreen (well the main and end titles are but that's it). The upside is that the laserdisc goes for silly money on ebay, and I now have a watchable copy of this hard to find film, and more importantly, I can listen to cues from Barry's superb score that were left off the LP. So, sorry to report that it's not a proper DVD release (unlike the Australian DVD of the wonderful Love Among The Ruins), but then it's no real surprise. If the tapes are not missing, and the labels are listening, please let's have a complete edition on CD. Mike

Very odd. I posted something here about 5 minutes ago, but it's nowhere to be found. And, oddly, it lists me as the last member to post something: 47 - 2800 Nov 26, 2013 - 8:13 PM By Ron Hardcastle - view But that 8:13 PM Nov 26, 2013 comment isn't here. What I wrote was that I had been able to stream "The Dove" a couple of times through Netflix and that as far as I could remember, it looked pretty good. But I came back to add that when I went to Netflix I found that "The Dove" was no longer available for streaming.

This one definitely needs an expanded CD release.

Having never seen the movie, how much music is there beyond what is on the LP? Judging by the track listing, an extra 13 minutes plus another song by Lyn Paul. There's no additional Lyn Paul song—there was always two versions of "Sail The Summer Winds" on the album. (You may be mistakenly reading the final track as a Lyn Paul song because of her name appearing on the next line, but that's only related to the asterisked tracks.) The extras are indeed the album tracks with FX / voice overdubs removed, the seven score cues that weren't on the album, plus the full film version of "Alone on the Wild, Wild Sea". Cheers
