Lehah- I met Mike Zeck two years ago--had him sign a Master of Kung Fu--you can find the scan of said comic upthread, circa June or July 2015. Yes, the man is soft spoken and comes across as a thoroughly-decent guy. He himself cracked a smile when presented with that MoKF comic; he said that it was always nice to see one of those for signing. I was thrilled.

He seemed a nice sort. I didn't get a real chance to talk to him because (I think) there was a podcast setting up an interview at his booth or something?

I rhapsodized in true fanboy fashion regarding my few minutes chatting with Mike Zeck. I don't normally seek out autographs or fanboy hero worship--I've only been to that one comic convention--but in the case of my comic book heroes, I felt compelled to do so. These guys were just as important as the filmmakers we always champion around here. I told Zeck about my admiration for his (and J.M. DeMatteis') Cap run, but especially my enthusiasm for his time on one of my favorite comics ever, Master of Kung Fu.

Having said that, I would truly enjoy meeting more of my comic book creator "heroes." These guys and gals were the architects of my childhood.

Jim Shooter, regardless of what thinks of him, was wonderful to chat with and hear speak. He is great with fans, and I got the sense that he truly appreciated compliments from fans.

Fanboy gushing concluded...for now. wink

I've been following Groove's blog since it started. He always posts the best stuff! He often pays tribute to MoKF, too.

I have half of those issues from which those repro covers originated. I especially like the one with Gorr! The black and white really brings out the detail!

Thanks so much for posting this, D_F - I've mostly missed this blog but no longer! How I love vintage covers, and Arthur Adams.

It's my favorite blog. He posts some awesome stuff, and he doesn't isolate his posts to Marvel and DC, either. He covers, Warren, Charlton, and portfolio art, and zines.

That Arthur Adams drawing is amazing. Here is the original cover it is based on in all of its glory. Easily one of my favorite John Buscema illustrations.

Bernie Wrightson is rightly regarded as one of the most seminal artists of the last 50
years and, tho his most famous creation was for the Distinguished Competition (which
also became Steve Gerbers second most legendary creation for Marvel, but it may not
be as widely-known he also provided the nifty campaign button for Howard’s Presidential run.

He ALSO was responsible for the cover of Marvel’s version of his D.C. masterpiece …

A titanic talent whose like will not soon come this way again.

The cover to The Incredible Hulk #197 is superb. Seems like The Collector was causing trouble everywhere in the MU back in the '70s. I'm happy to see him in the MCU, as well. I always thought that The Collector was a Jim Starlin creation. My first exposure to the character was in The Avengers #17, during the Korvac Saga. I seriously need to drag out the floppies and re-read that.

2017 marks the 35th anniversary of the Wolverine miniseries by Chris Claremont and Frank Miller.

I would even consider Uncanny X-Men issues #172-173 a sort of part of that miniseries; it's an outstanding story in its own...write.

Has the success of the LOGAN movie has inspired anyone to dig out their favorite Wolverine comics?

I have not. I take it that GOTG Vol. 2 is not essential in the build up to Avengers: Infinity War?

Only barely. It just sucks. I like the first one but Gunn messed this one up. The bad jokes are really bad and the retro Easter eggs are so plentiful that I'm surprised they didn't show Drax steal Peter Quill's Play-Dough and make a penis and use it throughout the movie as a running gag. (However, there's another dumb gag that does involve a penis.)

It's just a really stupid, really predictable movie.

I enjoyed GOTG vol 2. It isn't a perfect film, but the cast is great, there is some good humor and fun sequences. If you enjoyed the first film, I recommend that you see it and judge it for yourself.

There is a continuity gaffe with respect to Stan Lee's cameo, but I doubt most people will catch it, much less care. I didn't even realize it was a problem (way overstating things by even calling it a "problem", but for lack of a better term . . .) until after reading about it online.

It is not essential build up to Avengers: Infinity War. It should be noted that the Guardians are appearing in Avengers: Infinity War, and based on Chris Pratt's comments, they will be interacting with at least some Avengers. There is a scene at the end that launches a story thread that will undoubtedly be resolved in Avengers: Infinity War. Also, one of the mid-credits scenes teases something that will undoubtedly pay off in a later film, but probably not until at least Avengers: Infinity War, part 2, or whatever they are calling it these days. Both scenes are short, and to the extent either come into play in a later film, the filmmakers will undoubtedly tell you everything you need to know in that future film.

Don't bother seeing the film if the only reason you are seeing it is in hopes for an essential building block for Avengers: Infinity War. Instead, see the movie if you enjoyed the first film, and want to see the continued story of those characters. Plus, the Awesome Mix for the film has some great songs.
