DP - it comes from foolin' around too much. See post below.

Yeah OT, it's on track 18, The Force Field, Cloud Excerpts. Thanks for clearing that up for me. wink

As for the BB moment, it appears Huxley cut the blaster short, so someone else says "don't kill it," to which Goldsmith retorts, "its got a soul, play it."

I thought it sounded like "You've got a solo! Play it!"

It's awesome to hear all of these elements isolated like this.

The flubbed first takes of the main title are also great to hear.

Yeah, it looks like Goldsmith was giving Huxley a complimentary vote of confidence. Encouragement from the maestro, indeed!

It almost makes me wish I could buy it again (and I'm glad I don't have to)!

So True. Then again, judging from the photo this edition appears to be powered by rainbows.

This interesting exchange about the raw takes helps me understand why I've always skipped them, and why I've never been interested in extras.

I've been involved in hundreds of rehearsals and audio/video recordings as a musician, chorister, and observer. The last thing I want to do when I put on a record is be taken back to that environment. I listen to music to get away from that - what I want to hear is a good album of music, not think about the process, which has been part of my life for more than 40 years.

So this discussion has helped me realize that this stuff can be very interesting for some folks, but it just isn't for me. I'm only writing this because I don't know where else I would, and it explains my post above. Seriously, enjoy this stuff and thanks for helping me understand why I've never been interested in this aspect of the hobby.

I can certainly relate. But it's two (three?) tracks. What do you think of the synth only tracks with no studio chatter?

OTG, I don't think I've listened to the synth only tracks, so I'll give those a listen. Thanks for pointing this out.

And I certainly have no problem with extras being included on these magnificent releases, I just tend to listen to a couple once or just stop listening or iPodding after the main program. So I miss things that I might be interested in sometimes. But usually some member of the board mentions them and I get back to them. Like now!

On the other hand, I've got the first two discs as a single program in my iPod, and I've listened through to the whole thing several times, so apparently some extras and alternates I like. Certainly for this release.

I was finally listening to ST:TMP through headphones (okay earbuds) the other day and was just astounded at the details inside this score. Even something as familiar to me as Spock Walk contained little bits I'd never before noticed. Jerry just jam-packed this score with his genius.

Awesome! I've been so looking forward to cracking my copy open (just received last weekend, but I'm so backed up with work and catching up with my other music I haven't had a chance to check it out yet). Now I'm determined to get more listening time in.

This release continues to astound me. I was a vocal opponent, rabidly insisting we didn't need any more than the 20th anniversary set.

I was SO WRONG. So VERY VERY WRONG.

I hear new things in this all the time. It's just an astounding release of an unparalleled score.
