I met her in high school. Eventually I married her.

She's gone now, but I was the luckiest person in the world for just having known her.

Awesome, Octoberman and thanks! I agree with Edwzoomom.
My vote goes to my father-in-law. He's always treated me as if I was his own son and in having been in daily contact with him for over 32 years I've never heard him utter a harsh word about anyone, even people who've treated him badly. Humble, gentle and meek, he is a constant inspiration to others. To have watched him smile thru adversity such as heart problems, kidney and prostate cancer is a wonder to behold.
I wonder how much we really appreciate the people with whom we share our lives. I truly hope I can be as appreciative as folks like Octoberman and my "Papa".

That's wonderful, Jack. With in-laws it can be so tricky, can't it? But this man sounds like he has a grace of spirit and an inner fortitude that cannot help but be a positive influence to those around him. He sounds like the kind of man that would adopt a stepchild and be a better parent than the biological one. I love reading about people like that.

If you took the time to write the things you did, then it's a sign that you do reflect that influence.

Cheers.

There was an aunt on my mother's side who seem to spent most of her life thinking of others. wouldn't hurt a fly and I mean that literally. Never saw her get mad or filled with any greed. Just a real pleasant person. Sure nobodies perfect, there might have been some old stories about her during the roaring twenties, nothing bad mind you, but who are nuns?So she seemed to me to be one of the nicest person I knew for a while.

Without a doubt has to be my Dad.

If you look up the word nice in the dictionary, his photo is there.

Love you and miss you Dad! Hard to believe this December you will have been gone 10 years.

My grandmother (my mom's mom). She was going deaf and blind at the same time, but never let it diminish her happiness or outlook on life . She was truly the sweetest person I have ever known.

Thank you for that link, Eee-Dee. That's a story and a half. In many ways I would love to read such letters, but at the same time I have absolute respect for the intense privacy of these things.

So I'll have to make do with the things I'm reading here. big grin
I love this thread and I love that there are still contributions coming in to it.
