At last, an Intrada release that I really want to buy, but with the cost of postage I'm going to be patient, give it 4-6 weeks & see if there's another release I can add to it. The Flint albums? But Sebastian will be mine.

Why would anyone pick-up a Harkit release *ever*?

Because some of them are very good, such as their twofer of Komeda's "Knife in the Water" and "Cul-de-Sac."

Wonderful samples. It's been worth the wait and I'm glad I avoided the Harkit LP transfer.

I don't buy every new issue of a Goldsmith score these days and find a lot of his expanded issues to be superfluous to me. I appreciate he's a hot seller though, so I can see why a lot of his (to me) lesser scores are getting deluxe expanded editions in favour of less sought after composers that I also appreciate (Broughton, Holdridge).
Anyway, this is one release I am really up for!
I always liked the LP re-recording but dreamed that one day the actual film score tracks would be released.
I remember reading that they couldn't locate the film score tracks and the most likely release would be a straight LP re-issue.
Then, Lukas issued that little nugget of info that kept me from buying the Harkit release.
I'm so glad of that now.
I can't wait to give this baby a spin and to let my ears hear, for the first time, that cool funky music that I've only heard from my old tape recording straight off the telly!
This is a real 'of it's time' score that will maybe not appeal to all Goldsmith fans, but I really love this soundtrack for the fun vibe it gives off.
Bravo Intrada!

Jerry Goldsmith could write groovy sixties American music, just listen to those Flint scores, but Sebastian sounds so English, it could almost be John Dankworth at the top of his game. And this is the same year that he wrote Planet Of The Apes. I know people go on about Jerry Goldsmith, but he really could do just about anything...esp. in the sixtiessmile

Wonderful release!
I've been anxiously awaiting this since Lukas' "don't buy the Harkit" warning years ago.
I'll be happy to pitch my burned-from-LP CDR.
My love for Goldsmith started with his "Our Man Flint/In Like Flint" and "Man from U.N.C.L.E' sound that this score fits into, before solidifying into his more epic "Blue Max"/ "Sand Pebbles"/ "In Harm's Way" sound that made me a life-long fan.
This is a really fun score (despite a couple of kind of pathetic vocals that have not aged well).
I'm really looking forward to all the new material and original film tracks. And Tristram Cary too!!!!!!!!

Am I wrong, or does this leave only "The Lonely Guy" as a Goldsmith score issued (albeit in very abbreviated form) on LP that has not made it to CD?

From the newsletter:

...World premiere release in any format...

Yeah, if they say so. But I think they should know their Goldsmith customers better. I would speculate that even those who bought that other(-worldly) release won't hesitate to double dip and get a slightly expanded, slightly better sounding, better produced official disc. I know I would (if I had).

That's what happens when you take a part of a sentence and quote it out of context. If you'd copied the whole sentence, it would be clear that they are referring to the film score tracks, not the album tracks.

I'm listening to this cd as I write this. It's so great to hear vintage Goldsmith sounding so good. The actual score has some amazing JG sounds. If you like that FLINT/UNCLE sound, you're gonna love this.

A search of nearly 30 years has come to an end.
In the mid eighties Belgian TV repeated "Kapitein Zeppos: Tweng", a Belgian adventure series from 1968 that was a sequel to the very successful "Kapitein Zeppos: de Eglantier".
In the 60s Belgian TV made several successful children's action adventure series that used soundtracks from other US/ GB films:
- "Johan en de Alverman" which used the theme from "The Duchess of Brighton" from "The V.I.P.s"
- "Axel Nort" which used the music from "How the West Was Won" as it's opening tune and music from "James Bond" in the film as well as music from the "Flint" film.
- "Kapitein Zeppos: de Eglantier" also used music from "The V.I.P.s".

"Kapitein Zeppos: Tweng" used a tune, as can be heard in the clip:

I loved that music from the first time I heard it but I had no idea what it was from for all those years but now it turns out it is from "Sebastian" so it goes without saying that this one is ordered without hesitation.

I am enjoying the new Sebastian album very much. The film tracks are fairly different from the album tracks and add plenty of new theme variations to absorb.

It seems to me that the album "Main Title" should be designated an album track, not M3. The film track of the main title is quite different in orchestration and length. The two are hardly the same piece. Not a big deal, of course. However, I also recall that the film's main title music included the sounds in track 44 (Assorted Sounds for Titles). The bits were dubbed over, or perhaps even cut into, Goldsmith's title music as the credits decoded themselves on-screen. This is why there isn't much happening musically in portions of Track 12. The liner notes mention the computer-styled credits and that Cary wrote some auditions for the credits, but I recall that Cary's sounds were actually used. One can argue about whether they are simply sound effects or not, but it sounds to me like track 12 was written to accommodate them.

Fun, gorgeous score. My dog was a bit freaked out by the Tristram Cary pieces.

For anyone who is disappointed to have missed out on this (it's no longer available from Intrada, SAE and Moviemusic) you will be interested to know that there are still four copies left on Intrada's Amazon product page. Orders are fulfilled by Amazon. So if you want a copy, get it quickly.

http://www.amazon.com/Sebastian-Jerry-Goldsmith/dp/B00EYKC0TQ/

I didn't know that Intrada sold their CDs on Amazon. Shipping to the UK is only 7 dollars too. I could have ordered many items that way! I pay a small fee to my bank because it's an overseas transaction, but it's negligible.

They have 117 CDs listed so definitely worth a look for any items that have recently sold out on their site.
