I'm still hoping for a second BSX Blade Runner that contains the rest of the score. Hell, if they released a full two-disc resequenced edition I would buy it in a heartbeat. After all, who needs Vangelis anyway? He may not need the money or feel he owes anything to the fans, but hopefully the fans can sort it out for themselves. Come on Mr Thaxton, announce it already!

CD showed up - finally had a chance to listen to it last week - it is the Atlantic(?) release tracks - and for some reason it seems to have even more talking on it than that one! However, the sound is terrific. Easily the best sounding release of any Blade Runner soundtrack. It is ultimately disappointing, though as I'm one of those still hoping for a complete release from the film. Still, if your a Blade Runner fan and have an SACD player - it's worth it I think - made me pull out my Blu Ray and give that a spin - I really wish they had done an isolated track on that disc!

myself not a fan of re-recordings, but the BSX release is fantastic ! ! ! ! Yep, the BSX release is the best version commercially available. Hands down, this is the one to go to. It is a great attempt at a recreation. Some of it works, some of it (particularly the vocals) aren't even close. The 3-disc 20th anniv. set is the best commercially available release, at least so far. I have listened to the sound clips/cues/bites whatever you call them of the BSX and I have to agree with you that it is an attempt at recreation. I have watched the movie too many times that is why I have a problem with this recreation. The vocals are as you say the killer when I ask myself if I need to buy it. Maybe some day when I find it in the bargin bin. The 3-disc 20th Anniversary set is the best commercially available at this time. I own a Sony DVD Player that doubles as an SACD player...one day I might even buy and SACD! What is the best way to check if your DVD player doubles as a SACD player? When I bought my DVD player I thought it could, but I have never purchased an SACD's and do not see it anywhere on the front of the DVD player. I did pick up a STAR TREK : NEMESIS SACD from Family Dollar, but put it into storage since I did not have a player. I will have to dig it out and try it. Kim Tong

Kim Tong Kim If your player does not say SACD, or your manual, it is not. Hardly any of them are anymore. You can buy a few multi players. that also play blu ray. I have one. Most SACD are also standard CD I think, so you can play it, without the enhanced sound though. Or you can sell your SACD Nemesis, I would probably buy it. U know, Vangelis runs hot and cold with me. I like 1492, I think I have heard Bladerunner toomany times. And the strength of the visuals in Bladerunner so far surpass the intensity of the score, that I cannot fully separate the score and like it on it's own, the film is just so overwhelmingly visual. He is surely a talented man though. I just struggle loving his scores.

If you buy a new CD player from Pioneer (I know, most people haven given up on CD) then chances are you have a SACD player. Alex

I think the strength of the score is that it makes for a perfect match/marriage with the visuals. Scott never expected a majestic, yet tender, sad melancholic score for his sushi and neon comic book movie but that (the music and the images) is precisely what defines the famous and distinctive Blade Runner vibe or atmosphere, often copied but never bettered, which will become so painfully apparent when Blade Runner 2 is unleashed upon us. No, the involvement of Ridley Scott and Vangelis (if they are able to attract him to the project) will not help. Blade Runner is a once in a lifetime event only. A freakishly happy accident. Alex

Forgive me, but my own reaction to this is "Why bother?" "Blade Runner" isn't one of my favorite soundtracks, not even one of my favorite Vangelis soundtracks, although I bought it as soon as the actual soundtrack was available and have selections from a few Vangelis compilation CDs. But I recognize that a lot of people apparently do like it, may even love it, so I don't begrudge them this opportunity to have it on SACD. But what captured my attention was that they are still manufacturing SACDs, which I just assumed had come to an end and that I'd have to just put up with the well over a hundred that I own. So that's encouraging. And yes, too many DVD and Blu-ray players are being manufactured today that are unable to decode SACD, which is, of course, understandable, although frustrating to those of us who would prefer our new players to have that capability, and which leaves me with having to have the most current Blu-ray player and a second one just to play SACDs -- my newest Samsung player has features the old one didn't have (e.g. being able to access all the Netflix streaming catalog, while the old one can only access just those movies that I've put on my streaming queue, which can be very limiting). To many of us who continue to love our SACDs, we're happy to see anything that would signal some slight sign of life in the format.
