At last. His best score for years. Very intense and heartbreakingly beautiful at the same time!

Roger on the new CD:

I just played the disc. It's the first time I've heard this score outside of the film. The composer has done a stunning job of assembling this album. He took a classical approach and assembled the music into several long movements. He also recorded some new things to add into the program. Now it will probably drive the folks who want everything C&C bananas, but if those folks can open their hearts and minds and allow themselves to get absorbed in this musical journey, they'll be richly rewarded! Just a great album. It really showcases the artistry over the function of the music.

This is how Christopher Young does most of his album presentations as he did with the more recent ones (Sinister, Deliver Us From Evil) and that's usually a plus point! Most of those also feature un-used or new music, so this makes this upcoming release even more exciting!

Sounds good to me... certainly it will work much better than the whole score on its own.
I just hope the album will have a decent length and won't be 30 minutes only.

Nice review bobbengan, a few posts above.
I finally watched this last week & agree - love the
Appalachian tune set for somewhat ethnic instrumentation - very clever Chris! I saw past the nonsense bits of the plot & viewed it as a grown up Looney Tunes film - one person gets a gag in, then the tables turn, so on & so on. There is an arrow gag I won't spoil that had me literally out of my chair in shock & belly laughs.

Fun stuff, glad the album is coming.

Thanks Goblin - And agreed about that arrow gag!

Can't wait to finally, *ahem legally* own this terrific and poetic score.

Out now for two months and nobody speaks about this great score.
Chris Young did a marvellous job in assembling this music as a concert version. It deserves much more recognition than it gets. I can just recommend this not only to the Christopher Young fans but to all, who love strong Americana influenced scores!

I agree, fantastic music and probably my favourite and most played release of the year so far. (And it's been a stunning year of releases from the speciality labels!)

I heard it prior to this release and we've had some discussion on it, it is a great score with his soothing Americana sound and I find the action material at times actually reminiscent of what Brian Tyler did for Rambo (I wouldn't be surprised if there was some temp tracking there). I'm curious to hear the program on the CD, it's on my wish list as are so many Intrada releases put out this year.

Picked up the score recently and waited till I watched the movie. I didn't hate the film, but what a lot of missed opportunites. The score isn't one of them, it's pretty damned good. I've given it several listens already, and I highly recommend it.

He scored The Monkey King 2 last year! IMO, one of last year's best scores!

Really strong work indeed. Wonderful main theme. That montage cue as DeNiro prepares to face off against Travolta is awesome!
