Your taste is just different than most! Some of those titles from the 1960s are just not the ones I'd ever suggest to someone just starting to get into Goldsmith.

W. David Lichty, your post is the winner so far. Great suggestions for scores closer to what Losher already knows and loves. Since Goldsmith is so eclectic, I agree that's a great way to start. And Joan, great suggestion about sampling through YouTube.
I don't have much else to suggest...except Capricorn One! Still one of my favorites forty years on. But it's muy 70's, so you have to go for that sound to enjoy.

losher, good luck - these things are always difficult because mostly we end up telling you what WE like, often completely disregarding what you have mentioned that YOU like so far. I looked at your profile, and I also see that you're talking about music as experienced "outside the film" (unless I'm misinterpreting that). So yes, what can I add to what others have said? Not much, but the suggestions about working backwards from the time period of the scores you enjoy, and particularly the YouTube exploration, are good ones.
Still, it's a little bit like saying, "I heard some jazz on the radio last night. Can you recommend some more"? Well, it's not as exaggerated as that, but it's a bit like it. Good luck again. Do let us know how you get on.

I found my own answer to this question with a terrific source: YAVAR! He really helped me get deeper into JG's music, and of course the Odyssey itself is a tremendous, fun-as-heck-to-listen-to resource.

My three favorite Jerry Goldsmith scores are Star Trek V, The Edge, and Innerspace, not particularly in that order. And this year, I’ve listened to the expanded Powder several times, so maybe it’s a top four...So my question is, given the four aforementioned scores, which are the next ones my esteemed colleagues out there recommend I acquire quickly, and/or not pass up?
i found jeff bond's exhaustive, multi-part listener's guide in FSM in the early 00s very helpful when i started to dig deeper into goldsmith. the man just wrote SO MUCH MUSIC.

My favorites are Boys From Brazil Capricorn One, Planet of the Apes, Lonely are the Brave, the Blue Max, and Omen: Final Conflict. Special mention has to go to some of the Dr Kildare music...terrific stuff there imo.
