Found three boxes of (mostly) soundtrack cassettes in the garage. They've been in there for maybe 20 years, in the cold and damp. Perhaps unsurprisingly, two of the first three tapes I tried didn't play properly: MR BASEBALL lasted about 20 seconds before slurring drunkenly. There's no way I'm going through them all to see if any of them are still okay, especially as I have them all (give or take a few) on CD anyway. Sadly I can't do anything else with them but send them to landfill.
No dont throw them away - put them up for sale or give them to a charity shop. You might even kickstart someone's interest in film soundtracks. If selling I would be interested. Best of Luck! Regards CC
I still got a fully functional Technics Cassette deck as well as a functioning Sony Walkman, so I could actually still play those. Both are over twenty years old, but in good condition and were seldom used. (No, I'm not offering them for sale here. ) They are stored in their boxes.
I still have my VCR, but I'm afraid to test it. I'm thinking the first tape I put in there will get hopelessly wrapped around the heads in a crumpled mess. I don't know whether the fault would lie in the old machine or the old tape, but in the end it wouldn't matter. One of these days I ought to test it, though, and see.
The same thing can happen with audio cassettes, especially ones in the condition Hercule described. Those are souvenirs now; I would never put them in my player.
I still have a functional Walkman too! As far as cassettes and VCR's go there are businesses that will copy them over onto CD's/DVD's for a fee.
I'm afraid they've gone: I didn't see the offers to take them off my hands for postage until afterwards. Sorry about that! I kept the inlay cards (I'll probably collage some of them on the wall at some point) but the tapes and boxes had to go. I did try a few more of the tapes while one played okay for the first track, three others warbled and slurred and seized up and I didn't want to try any more in case they ruined the machine.
I'm thinking there must be some more somewhere that haven't spent twenty plus years in a cold damp garage, though: I didn't see my old tapes of Psycho 2, The Fly, Aliens, Link, Wild Geese 2.... But where they might be, I've no idea.
