Not sure what you mean… the sound on the La-La Land ST:TMP is much improved over all previous versions

it seems the 2LP version of Star trek:TMP sounds better than the CDs ...

If they use the same master, this should be highly unlikely. Did you do an A/B comparison?

Someone did compare ( as related on a french review , Mad Movies ) this is why I quoted that the LPs seems to have a superior sound

Take Papillon as long as there is the chance to get it for less than a fortune! The Universal France release is shit, by the way.

Don't agree. Have both releases and they are both fine .

Certainly not when you factor in the pops, clicks, etc.

Why isn't the vocal track on Universal France release missing in the Quartet one?
I'm fond of that track particularly.

When I put my copy of the Quartet CD into Itunes, I added the Nicoletta song.

Because it has nothing to do with the film except that it uses Jerry's music. Same goes for the last track on the Quartet edition.

That said, I also have to add that the Quartet edition is the best edition one can get. The Écoutez le Cinéma edition (Universal France) uses inferior material (PAL video DVD isolated score) for its expansion upon the original album, resulting in wrong pitch/tempo and sonic differences between the content from the original album and the new stuff from the DVD. The Quartet edition is a revelation, a joy to read, watch and, of course, listen to!

And that said, get LLL's STTMP, too. It's otherworldy good-sounding!

What about the DSD Rambling edition ?

Actually still looking for that. But the mastering should not make any conceivable difference. Plus you have the same mediocre source as the french edition.

Papillon is good but we’re talking Star Trek: The Motion Picture here... The king of kings, the cream of the crop, the big kahuna, creme de la creme, the magnum opus, the apple of ones eye, the best there is, the best there was, the best there ever will be.

The human adventure is just beginning!

Great complimenting TMP, its a decent score, ok film, but no comparison to Papillon it knocks its socks off especially the movie, I prefer the Papillon score too, its a great release W/A get your hands on a copy soon before it rockets in price.

I have the French release from a few years ago - and it is absolutely wonderful - both sonically and musically. Unless you want the few minutes of extra music on the recent release - that French Universal release is superb. Maybe it's around online, etc. at a decent price. (The French issue also has some 'extras' not on the original Lp or CD releases).

Papillon is my top Goldsmith score. Love the film too. Jumped on the Quartet release as soon as it came out. The "Catching Butterflies" track was always one I missed dearly when the score first came out on Silva Screen CD. However, and perhaps this is just because I'm so used to that recording, the newer one sounds closer mic'd in places. Sometimes the horns appear to have less ambient room and that takes away some of the "epic" quality to the music (for me). Glad to have all releases (I also got the French one too) but I guess the original presentation stuck with me for some cues.
