Not really. First off the notation isn't quite a perfect comparison, since one is in the key of D and the other in the key of B -- this alone means what looks like the same notes are in fact different notes relative to the tonic, which gives them a completely different 'feel' as it were. In other words, where the top melody uses an F#, the bottom one is actually using an A, competitively. This is on top of the different underlying harmonies.
Very similar? Yes. One inspired by the other? Quite possibly. A rip-off to the point they are the 'same'? Nope, not at all.
Yup, quite similar, but I refuse to believe it's anything other than a coincidence. The "riff" in question is a fairly common riff in this type of music. As you can hear, the two themes move in completely different directions in the bridge and melody.
But I guess we'll never know untill we ask Shuki Levy.
Terra, thanks for explaining that the notation isn't quite as similar as it looks. I tried that a couple of times in my earlier post and didn't want to go down that rabbit hole.
