As to Trovajoli, the rather new Italian label Four Flies Records will release on September 20st for the first time his complete 1960 crime-jazz score CHIAMATE 22-22 TENENTE SHERIDAN, but only on an LP limited to 500 copies, not on CD: http://fourfliesrecords.bandcamp.com/album/chiamate-22-22-tenente-sheridan More than 6 months later, I decided to buy this LP. After a couple of spins, I think this AT soundtrack is moderately good (I love film music from 1960 and don't dislike crime-jazz). I wouldn't recommend CHIAMATE 22-22 TENENTE SHERIDAN to anybody; only those people who already like this sort of music (& from this time period) would probably be receptive toward it. It plays like source-music cues and has very little dramatic commentary. If you like the night club jazz band tracks in Seddok and/or Planets Against Us, then you shouldn't let this LP-only disc pass you by.

I wouldn't recommend CHIAMATE 22-22 TENENTE SHERIDAN to anybody; only those people who already like this sort of music (& from this time period) would probably be receptive toward it. It plays like source-music cues and has very little dramatic commentary. An interesting footnote: Trovajoli used almost the same "Swing poliziesco" track (track 2 on the CHIAMATE 22 LP) also in LA GRANDE OLIMPIADE for a pole vault sequence. You can listen to this music at 1:31:20 in the GRANDE OLIMPIADE film: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kx8mGG7KYBk&t=5651s This music was of course also on the Lavagnino tapes we had at our disposal for our GRANDE OLIMPIADE CD on Alhambra, but it was one of those pieces we could not use as there was no room anymore on a single CD with almost 80 minutes - we therefore offered at the end of the Lavagnino CD only a selection of at least some of the Trovajoli cues for GRANDE OLIMPIADE. It is difficult to say for which movie this "Swing poliziesco" was composed first as CHIAMATE 22 was released in Italian cinemas just one month before LA GRANDE OLIMPIADE. So it could be that Trovajoli worked on both movies almost at the same time.

Beat Records issues another Trovajoli ... this time never-before-released music from the 1969 Love Maker (L'Uomo per Fare L'Amore)

Hi, Essankay & wayoutwest (& Leo, if he's still around these FSM parts) Months ago, I bought the LP on CHIAMATE 22-22 TENENTE SHERIDAN and I have no regrets. Sure, we collectors of Italian soundtracks would love content such as this to be released on compact disc but this prospect doesn't seem likely. If you have a turntable (I have always kept a turntable for myself since I began collecting around 1985), then I recommend you attempt to purchase this Trovajoli LP - purportedly there's only 7 remaining according to Four Flies' website: https://fourfliesrecords.bandcamp.com/album/chiamate-22-22-tenente-sheridan Even though this edition expands upon the initial EP release from 1960, the runtime duration is still not long enough to fill out a CD program. If CHIAMATE 22-22 TENENTE SHERIDAN were to be presented on CD, then it would likely need to be paired with another title to satisfy CD customers who dislike CDs of 30 minutes or under. The record label issuing CHIAMATE 22-22 TENENTE SHERIDAN charges a premium price for the content.

Having lived through the LP era I can say that I have no fondness for vinyl except as artifacts. I'm no more likely to take up LPs again than I am to return to VHS. At this point I'd prefer a good quality download to an LP. And as appealing as this Trovajoli album is, the world is filled with great music that I can acquire in more acceptable formats so it's easy to say no. And being able to say no is actually quite liberating. I'm happy for you and all other vinyl enthusiasts that it's available, though.
