I read the announcement and it doesn't say anything about rare/previously unreleased Mancini being part of this box set. Where does it mention an expanded Pink Panther as alluded to in the thread title? Are we sure that this box isn't just a large scale re-issue of several out of print Mancini albums that one can stream right now on Spotify? (albeit remastered)

First sentence of the last paragraph.

Being the cynic that I am, I tend to agree with you. My prediction: The "expanded" Pink Panther will be the addition of the two tracks from "A Shot In the Dark" that Mancini recorded. And I can pretty much tell you what’s going to be in the 11-CD set--the original un-remastered LP/CDs for:

1. Peter Gunn
2. Breakfast at Tiffany’s
3. Experiment In Terror
4. Hatari
5. Charade
6. The Pink Panther
7. The Great Race
8. Arabesque
9. What Did You Do In the War Daddy
10. Two For the Road
11. The Party

Possible swaps are Mr. Lucky, Darling Lili and Oklahoma Crude for Arabesque and What Did You Do In the War Daddy. With Peter Gunn in there, I don’t see “Gunn” appearing at all. The whole set will have a list price of $49.95 and sell for $32.95 on Amazon.

Got it - the parenthetical threw me off. "Slated for expansion" is rather cryptic, at least to me, as it could mean several different things. Curious if they're expanding the album recording with tracks Mancini recorded but cut before the original album release, with film tracks (are these known to exist?), or with new recordings (which the press release alludes to).

This is a very nice website with a lot of album graphics, a discography, photos & videos & lots more.

Can anybody tell me how to get to any content on that site. All I get is pictures, covers and quotes in animation.

it's abit challenging (ie annoying). I only found mention of it in the "News" category. No specifics, but it sounds like a sampler rather than anything complete - "an 11 CD deluxe box set comprising the best of Henry Mancini's classic film soundtracks." Use your mouse to drag the text up or down. If you use the arrows, you'll miss some of the text.

Enough talk about this boring, overpriced CD box set:

Did anyone score that pink LP yesterday?

I hope this hasn't been posted before...

According to the Second disc website;

1.Henry Mancini and His Orchestra, The Pink Panther LP (RCA/Legacy Recordings)
On April 16, 2014, the great composer/conductor Henry Mancini would have turned 90. To mark the occasion, the all-new HenryMancini.com was launched, and Legacy announced plans for a yearlong celebration of the maestro’s enduring, engaging ouevre. The label has major plans including an 11-CD box set of Mancini’s soundtracks as well as a newly-curated retrospective, but the festivities kick off on Saturday with the release on eye-catching pink vinyl of Mancini’s original album of music from Blake Edwards’ all-time classic comedy caper The Pink Panther.

This soundtrack album (slated for expansion later this year for the movie’s 50th anniversary) was, as per Mancini’s custom, a re-recording of the film’s major themes for the record-buying audience. In addition to the now-famous, sly ‘n’ slinky title theme with saxophone by Plas Johnson (which went Top 40 as a single; the soundtrack itself went Top 10), other highlights of the score include “It Had Better Be Tonight,” an Italian-style love song recently covered by Michael Bublé and performed in the film by Fran Jeffries (and on disc by Mancini’s chorus), and “Something for Sellers,” a great example of Mancini’s feel for what we today think of as lounge music. Mancini’s “The Pink Panther” is currently the single most-streamed song in the entire Sony Music catalogue – a testament to the ongoing power of the gifted composer Henry Mancini.

There is an set on the Real Gone Jazz label of 8 RCA albums on 4 CDs. You can get a new copy on amazon for $6.97. The best compilation I have is the 3 disc "The Days Of Wine And Roses" from RCA.
It will be interesting to see what the new set contains.

I did. smile

And, slightly off topic, I got the emerald green vinyl Wizard of Oz which is significantly different then all previous soundtracks of this film and produced by Marilee Bradford, as well as the 10", glow-in-the-dark Ghostbusters by Ray Parker, Jr.

How is the Pink Panther LP? Solid pink or clear? Which label design does it use? Analog or digital master? Same cover art or different?

The Pink Panther is a heavy, solid pink, vinyl record with the old black label, the one with Nipper looking at the grammaphone at the top of the label.

Nice! Same cover art? Are you going to spin it or just keep it as a collectible?

Oh, no. I'll play it- just haven't had a chance with the holiday yesterday. Tonight, maybe. But to be honest, I want to listen to Il Profumo Della Signora in Nero by Maestro Nicola Piovani and The Degradation of Emmanuelle by Nico Fidenco and In The Wall by Clint Mansell, all of them Death Waltz records, first.

Stupid DP.

But I love Record Store Day- and Amoeba makes the whole waiting thing pretty pleasant for the thousands of acolytes on line.

amazon.co.uk currently list a 9 CD set slated for a mid-November release:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Classic-Soundtrack-Collection-Mancini-Henry/dp/B00MWPA2WC/

I wonder if this is the expected 11 CD set. Judging by the title, I'm afraid this will be nothing new, though.

Someone here posted a retailer's link of what the box seems to include. I don't have the link offhand, but it looked to contain 18 albums. Of course, it is not official information.

If it turns out true, then that is a very good price for someone who only has a few of the 18 albums represented in the box. A number of them have been long out of print and one is a CD premiere. There were some bonus tracks listed that of course will probably not satiate the diehard score geeks.
