Johann Christian Bach: Overture 'Adriano in Siria' & Symphonies - Academy of Ancient Music/Standage

Ah, another of JS's talented sons. I'm not quite as fond of him as I am of CPE and WF, but this is a favorite recording:

J.C. Bach: Berlin Harpsichord Concertos 1 - Anthony Halstead / The Hanover Band

Mikis Theodorakis - Sinfonie No. 3 / Liturgie No. 2

I stumbled upon this 2-CD set at a local shop today. What a lucky find. I was previously only familiar with his film scores for Serpico and Iphigenia and had no idea he'd composed outside of film. The symphony is dark and often fierce with hauntingly beautiful, intense and moving solo vocals and choral work. Highly recommended.

Either that or there are three or four guys posting nothing but classical music album covers. wink

Indeed. At some point, this thread turned into the classical/jazz thread.

Nothing wrong with classical or jazz, but I'm hoping for a bit more rock, pop and electronic music!

I thought there was a classical music thread here in recent years. I'll have to use Google to search for it. wink

Maybe there should be a Pop-Rock Now Playing thread...

Why? What difference does it make whether people in this thread are listening to Pop, Rock, Jazz, Classical, or anything else? The first post in this thread is a classical album, but it's not as if almost everyone here hasn't posted entries from a variety of genres.

If anyone is for whatever reason irritated or offended by seeing classical or jazz albums turn up here then they should quit whining and start posting! Or is the micromanagement brigade going to demand separate threads for all types of music, so they can see only what they want?!

Not that it matters, but I've never had an "issue" with what people are listening to. Why would I? smile

Mr. C, I took your post just the way you meant it (I saw the thumbs-up) and was glad. Sorry if you thought I was bundling you up with any controlling sourpusses.

I'm fascinated to see what other people are listening to, whatever it is. Who knew Jim Phelps was such a big Clash fan!

I don't think anyone is being irritated or offended (except maybe yourself). I'm certainly not. It's just an observation of a curious turn of events in this thread.

If no one's irritated about the musical listening habits of others, then let's move on with the thread. smile
