(mamber) asked,
Can you tell me which TZ episodes use the cue “Jail Break”, please?
Thanks.

Absolutely!

Season 2 episode 24 "The Rip Van Winkle Caper" at ~13:32 for 36 seconds, when Simon Oakland's De Cruz gets in a car to run another man down, then the car goes over a cliff.

Season 4 episode 2 "The Thirty Fathom Grave" at ~45:30 for 63 seconds, right after Mike Kellen's Chief Bell dramatically leaves a chat with Captain Beecham (Simon Oakland! The 'Jailbreak' man, apparently.) and goes overboard, an emergency follows.

Season 4 episode 4 "He's Alive" at ~3:13 for 20 seconds, as a fight breaks out in the street due to Dennis Hopper's rhetoric.

The timings are relative, Dan Hollis having given two sets of times based on two different DVD releases. Sometimes I corrected my original notes once I found the piece, and sometimes I didn't, I'm sorry to say, but the music will be within 15 seconds, if it's not right on the dot.

Oh, David can pretty much tell you where *every* CBS library cue was used on Twilight Zone, including the ones written for other programs. wink Of course, that's mostly thanks to Martin Grams Jr. and Dan Hollis. BTW (Member), could you edit your post of our copy above? We corrected/added a bit (the Ron Burbella link went to the wrong place).

The Work
The Twilight Zone: The Complete Series (Blu-ray at Amazon)

David’s Bibliography
Ron BURBELLA supplied us with his TransWorld 78s (discussed in GOLDSMITH / HERRMANN - TransWorld Recorded Library).
http://www.filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?threadID=115812

Martin GRAMS, Jr. wrote The Twilight Zone: Unlocking the Door to a Television Classic. This gave names and running times for all of the tracks used in each episode. Note his excellent coverage of “To Serve Man” in his sample section.
http://martingrams.biz/books-2/the-twilight-zone-unlocking-the-door-to-a-television-classic/

Dan HOLLIS supplied the time locations for all of the cues used in each Twilight Zone episode via his thread at Twilight Zone Cafe -> Twilight Zone, Etc. -> Classic Twilight Zone -> Musical Cues.
https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/twilightzoneworfr/musical-cues-t4163.html

Bill WROBEL documented the mass of CBS Music Library stuff donated to UCLA, giving us a little more info on the tracks we’ve acquired. Even more helpful info was found in his piece "Television Works of Bernard Herrmann." You can find some of the TransWorld tracks used in the show on his YouTube channel. We also recommend his video on "Autumn Love."

Despite being uncredited, Gene FELDMAN supervised The Twilight Zone scores for all five seasons. The Twilight Zone isn’t listed for him on IMDb, but Grams Jr.'s book may explain why, and Bill Wrobel's research seems to confirm that he was CBS’s guy for this process.

The cue "Secret Circle" reminds me the season 4 episode of The Twilight Zone:
"In His Image" in which the character of George Grizzard is uneasy with his identity.

Funny how these CBS cues were heavily tracked on Rawhide that I'm currently revisiting.

These CBS cues needs a re-recording.

I wonder what are the CBS series that used to track Goldsmith's library cues the most?
Apart from the well-known The Twilight Zone, Perry Mason, Gunsmoke, Rawhide, Have Gun - Will Travel.

I recognized "Jailbreak" used during a wild raid.

RAWHIDE SEASON 5

Episode #6
“Incident of The Lost Woman”
written by Ward Hawkins
directed by Thomas Carr
guests: Fay Spain, R.G. Armstrong, Harry Dean Stanton, Roy Engel

“What is this, a sewing circle or a cattle drive?!”
—Trail boss Gil Favor

It’s a tought family drama. Gil Favor scouts the wilderness on horse and discovers the body of a woman and her baby—music supervisor Leon Klatzkin injects a stock music from The Twilight Zone (Jerry Goldsmith’s “The Big Tall Wish”) that emphasize the sweetness of the scene. The outfit takes care of the little one while the family clan wreaks havoc with the herd to get back the woman and the little heir. This story shows that behind the iron trail boss there’s still a man. Rowdy Yates mentions to the rescued woman that Favor used to have a wife that died but season 3 followers already know that from “Incident of the Fish Out of Water”. After “Incident of the Four Horsemen”, find the second army of cowboys looking for trouble (here robbing the herd of Gil Favor at night during a wild raid) led by an angry family head and this time punctuated by Jerry Goldsmith’s hectic CBS cue “Jailbreak”.

Quoth (member) These CBS cues needs a re-recording.

YES!

OR -- they just need to be excavated and released complete from the CBS archives. Those cues on the Prometheus Early Years album sound great IMO. If all the rest of this stuff (the other two thirds of the cues Jerry wrote, plus the full versions of all these we found) was released on one good-sounding box set, that would be awesome. But yeah if this stuff is lost I need a new recording of some of these full cues at the very least: City Mood, Jailbreak, Autumn Love 1-7, and some of those other dramatic cues for sure, including all three "Moment"s.

(Member), one of our listeners actually recently wrote us asking about a Goldsmith CBS Music Library cue used in Rawhide (I could tell from listening to the episode clip that it was Goldsmith, but it was not one of the cues among the Twilight Zone isolated scores or TransWorld/EZ Cue material we have). I think if we can uncover other unique library cues in the show which we haven't covered in this recent two-parter, we might play and discuss them as a bonus before the sole original Rawhide score Jerry wrote. Same goes for any other shows like Have Gun - Will Travel, if people want to seek out other Goldsmith library cues that might've been used in them. It's just that we don't have a guide to find the cues like David did (Grams and Hollis) for The Twilight Zone. And of course those shows also don't have isolated score tracks, so we'd have to play/discuss the cues with dialogue and sound effects (far from ideal).

(member), likewise, I've recently been catching some Perry Masons on broadcast TV as I head for bed, most from the first season, it turns out, and I've heard them use Silent Flight twice within just a few episodes for opening sequences where mysterious things were happening, and another, the short one used as a scene transition in the Twilight Zone 'Masks' episode, as a scene transition in the Mason program. Now that I know them, I expect I'll catch them over and over, much the way many of us do the tracked music in original Star Treks.

Yes, I have to agree. I'll take either, especially after the marvels that are Tadlow's Thriller discs, but absolutely I'd want to hear the originals in Prometheus quality.

What we really need is the equivalent of Music From CBS Westerns (produced by The Film Music Society) but for Jerry Goldsmith only.

The Jerry Goldsmith CBS Westerns, including
Gunsmoke
Have Gun - Will Travel
Rawhide
The Loner
