tnpir4002, if you're very new to the board you can be forgiven for not knowing this: The 50th Anniversary collection was announced early last year, and fan requests were specifically solicited. I should know, as I was one of the two people who organized the fan suggestions into a spreadsheet for Lukas. I'm neither new to the board nor ignorant of the how and why of the 50th Anniversary Release. It was ALWAYS going to be a "grab bag" release, an excuse for putting out stuff like Star Trek: The Experience which honestly wouldn't have a clear place on any other collection. I get that. My point was simply that if The Experience was such a popular request from fans, why not make it its own standalone release, like some of the episode scores have been? Same for the video games. For weird source music rarities. For trailer music. For the TMP alternate mix and TWOK epilogue sans narration. Trust me, I knew this too, and I loved the little one-off surprises that were there. At the time it was planned as a three disc set, and The Animated Series was going to get its own release. Presumably when it was discovered that TAS music was just a little over half an hour, it was incorporated into the set, making it four discs with more than half a disc of extra space. I was just as thrilled as anyone else that ST:TAS was included; no issues with how that was incorporated. I guess I have some sympathy for those who complain about having to buy the disc of TOS stuff which "should" have been included on the massive and expensive complete TOS collection. But that was as definitive as it could be at this time, and this material discovered after. I can understand why Lukas included it on this set, because 1) it was a 50th Anniversary celebration so should have some representation of the original Trek, and 2) more people would have had to complain about buying a separate release just to get "what should have been on the TOS box in the first place". I understand exactly where you're coming from, especially since the new sources were discovered after the box set release; this is one of those areas where there's no clear picture of what "right" looks like. The only thing I didn't know before this thread was the it was originally planned as a 3-disc set instead of 4; it's still hard not to feel like some other fine TNG material got edged out. To tell you the truth, there are exactly three pieces I'm grousing about that weren't included: 1) TNG, "Starship Mine"--Jay Chattaway's cue from the beginning of the show when Picard takes a look around the empty bridge before the work crews arrive 2) DS9, "Profit and Lace"--David Bell's cue (again from the teaser I think) for when Zek and Ishka arrive, and the camera pans over the station as the Ferengi ship docks 3) VOY, "Parallax"--Dennis McCarthy's music for the final act of the show, starting from when the shuttle launches until the last shot (which features a nice reprise of the Star Trek theme, which seemed to be a rarity on VOY) A "would be nice" would also have been some material from "Phage," the chase through the hall-of-mirrors asteroid; and the cue from "Deadlock" that started the final act, when the Vidiians boarded Voyager up through the actual detonation.

It's unrealistic to have expected Voyager or D.S.9. cues on the 50th set when at the time it went up for sale, there was no Volume 1 of Voyager and there was already a second volume of D.S.9. known to be coming. These titles haven't had their full chances yet to warrent bonus cues on the 50th set. However, it's entirely possible -- depending on sales I would think -- we'll get an odds & ends set similar to the 50th set, after both Voyager and D.S.9. have each had two volumes.

I didn't scroll up because: 1. I thought I had seen all the posts above already; obviously that one slipped by me. 2. There's no telling how many pages back the quote was, or if it even was in this thread. There's probably four or five threads it could have been in.

As we are now approaching April, hopefully all of the scheduled titles are still on track for April!!!! April 11 for sure, April 25 is in the air right now. We might have to swap our April 25 release with our May 9 release if the its signed off in time. So close...so very close
