Series 11 of Doctor Who is being shot using Cooke and Angenieux anamorphic lenses for the first time as the show’s production team move to make the show look more filmic.

Bristol’s Films at 59, the company that supplies equipment to BBC Studios for production of the sci-fi drama, is making available Cooke anamorphic Prime lenses and Angenieux Optimo anamorphic zooms that will be used with Arri Alexa XT and Alex Mini cameras.

According to Films at 59, director Jamie Childs and director of photography Dennis Crossan want the lenses to bring an increased cinematic look to the show which went into production at the end of October.

Films at 59 hire client manager Dave Wride said: “The BBC have made a monumental leap here to enhance the look of Doctor Who and I’m sure the fans will not be disappointed with the distinctly cinematic results that this lens and camera combo will afford them.”

Series 11 of Doctor Who will be the first to feature Jodie Whittaker as the Doctor and will also star Bradley Walsh, Tosin Cole and Mandip Gill.

Whittaker will be the Thirteenth Time Lord, taking over from Peter Capaldi who leaves the show at Christmas.

Series 11 will also be the first for new head writer and executive producer Chris Chibnall, who takes over as show runner from Steven Moffat.

The 10-part series will air in Autumn 2018, kicking off with an hour-long special followed by nine 50-min episodes.

Doctor Who is a BBC Studios production for BBC One and a BBC America co-production.

I hope they don't desaturate the colour. I really can't stand that.

Just an update. Cast and crew have been filming in Cape Town for a couple of weeks. It's doubling for another location, so that's not a spoiler.

Photos of Jodie Whittaker filming have popped up on social media, and Bradley Walsh is also out there.

Lots of filming activity at Park Hill flats in Sheffield this morning. For a stack of photos of the TARDIS and the four leads, including Jodie posing with some children, have a look at @GirlyLetters tweets today:

If you come out of Sheffield railway station on the opposite side of the town entrance, and walk up a loooong flight of steps up a hill, Park Hill flats is just down the road from there.

Anyone lucky enough to see Jodie filming today probably got a photo posing with her, because social media is full of them. Decent of her to take so many. If she didn't how how much attention she'd get before, she certainly does now!

A few updates. First, new logo:

Murray Gold confirmed at last week's Gallifrey One convention that he has now left the series.

Double Negative will be taking over the visual effects from Milk VFX who have worked on the series since 2005. DNEG are known for their work on Inception, Interstellar, Ex Machina and Blade Runner 2049.

The Doctor Who exhibition in Cardiff is closed and will not be moving elsewhere.

Location filming continues apace, most recently in Gosport. If you want more details just see @girlyletters on Twitter (you will be able to tell from costumes which period the Doctor is visiting, so consider that a spoiler warning).

All been quiet on the filming front recently. No pics leaking out. Aside from the South Africa and Sheffield filming, they're running a very tight ship.

Recent rumours that an old character is returning (no one knows who). I would quite like to see Tegan or Romana pop up.

There are rumours (and that's all they are) circulating now that comedy favourite David Jason will feature in the new series, and that the new Doctor will have a pet cat! Come back K9 all is forgiven...

Of course spoilers are in the above including possible returning monsters and characters, and the first episode title.

A one minute clip from episode one leaked on to YouTube. The BBC swiftly had it removed, but then someone else uploaded it. Then they had that one removed as well. No doubt it's still knocking about!

I know there's contracts, official promo dates, exclusive news releases etc, but geez, leave up a gawddamn one minute clip for Pete's sake. Which makes it more ridiculous because fans know where to find this stuff once it's leaked/released.

It's been uploaded and removed from YouTube three times now. The BBC must be hacked off. You have to wonder how, yet again, someone they've employed and trusted has leaked it. This has been going on with Doctor Who since it came back.

I suspect it will pop up again a few more times tonight.

I found it in two seconds, and not on YT.

So we have:

"Why did you call me madam?"

"Because you're a woman?"

"Am I? Does it suit me?"

and a new sonic screwdriver (the cynic in me says for toy purposes)

Jodie, Mandip Gill, Tosin Cole and Chris Chibnall will do a panel at SDCC on Thursday 19th.

On the Saturday, Jodie will be part of Entertainment Weekly’s Women Who Kick Ass panel, which this year will also include Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.‘S Chloe Bennett, Watchmen‘s Regina King, Riverdale‘s Camila Mendes, and The Darkest Mind‘s Amandla Stenberg.

In other news, the BBC plan to take legal action over the recent leaks and want Tapatalk to provide information on the identity of the person who uploaded the clip to their platform.

And finally, a group of musicians in Minnesota have recorded an album entirely dedicated to the Doctor Who story The Caves of Androzani. Check it out:

Doctor Who and Jodie have nabbed the front cover of Entertainment Weekly, which includes some on set photos. See below:

I wasn't the biggest fan of Capaldi, too old and theatrical for me. It was also the wrong decision to keep Jenna Coleman IMHO, and the episodes themselves were way too hit and miss, the same goes for Gold's music. Heaven Sent though, what a breathtaking episode all round! Gold's music was top-notch.

I am however excited for Jodie, and am also excited for the new composer. I just really hope there's no more leaks and they don't spoil too much in these teasers. I might have to resist watching anything else after seeing this one, because this is exactly what a teaser should be in my eyes. I feel they are going to spoil things more and more as it gets closer to the premiere. BBC have a track record of doing that, as do many networks.

That gave away precisely nothing. I suspect there will be something at Comic Con on Thursday, though.

The last month has been busy:

Leaked one minute clip and pics
Entertainment Weekly cover, interviews and behind the scenes pics
Yesterday's 'teaser'
TV listing magazine Radio Times has an exclusive tomorrow, with cover and more pics

And of course SDCC on Thursday.
