This from the man who has the cheek to talk up and over-grade Statham and Seagal tosh!

I thought VV was quite believable in his fights as he looked like a fat and tall colonel kurtz but very strong. I agree the faces caving in like broken pots was a bit of an odd effect but overall i liked it, the villains were utterly scum-sucking dogs and he at least tried for his mrs, Dexter's sister.

tg's idea of Vv as Reacher is actually brilliant. He was great in this but I had the same trouble I had with Zahler's Bone Tomohawk, direction wasn't great, and the extreme violence seemed like it was papering over cracks. Also the entire look of 99 was awful I thought, like they shot it through a filled colostomy bag. It was better than not.

Solo - A Star Wars Story

Critics be damned. I enjoyed this film quite a bit. Saw it with a Saturday afternoon crowd and everyone had a good time. If it's true director Ron Howard had to re-shoot 3/4 of the film under crushing time constraints he did a commendable job. Is it a great film? No. But then, I wasn't expecting it to be one. I was expecting an enjoyable weekend popcorn flick and that's what was delivered. Ehrenreich does just fine in the lead role. There's a few Easter Eggs thrown in here and there that are fun to catch.

I'd rank it on par with Rogue One in terms of entertainment value. 7.5/10

Show me where I overrated Seagal...

I’d listen to the Wanderer on this one, as he seems to be having an especially lucid period at the moment.

That was before a beer-filled watch of the disaster film The Karius Back-Hander and embarking on having to do about 20 hours if effing overtime by Monday morning.

It's sunny here now and high twenties. i can't take it. it's too hot.

Deadpool 2 - 7.5/10
Not quite at the level of the first one, but still very funny. Almost too many amusing asides, and not quite enough Baccarin for my liking. One VERY funny scene in the X mansion. You can ALREADY pre-order the bluray steel book in HMV.

Atomic Blonde - 7.9/10
I’d heard that this film was a disappointment, but in fact I found it to be an intriguing mix of Cold War thriller and Ghost in the Shell-type sensibilities. Not a surprise as I gather it was based on a graphic novel. Charlize Theron’s fight scenes should be studied by the director of Brawl in Cell Block 99 (see above) to see how screen combat can be superbly choreographed without looking like anything but a panicked but skilled free-for-all with the sense that there’s weight behind the blows. James McAvoy is practised at the slightly sleazy maverick with his own agenda, and Eddie Marsan ably supports as the package that needs to be delivered. The spymasters including Toby Jones and John Goodman are suitably shadowy, and it all plays out against a great set of late-80s pop songs from the likes of Bowie and Depeche Mode. You expect twists and turns in this kind of film, and it doesn’t disappoint even if the basic plot (various parties trying to get a list of “assets”) is as old as spy films get.

There you go, Bruce - 25 words or fewer!

Watched a British film the other night, on London/live channel, Vendetta. 2013.

Danny Dyer is a wooden actor this was supposed to be along the lines of Death Wish it fell well short.

Parker/Dyer, is a military soldier, who's out for revenge after his parents were burnt alive, he tracks down the 5 militants while being covered by the M.O.D. none of it looks believable.

The murder of each gang member was awfully shot, you saw no real action, cinematography, only the aftermath being tied up then killing them, which i found crude, weird.

The script & camera work is poor, the cast I've never heard of they were all wooden the thing i hate most is when white guys trie to talk, bee black.

1/10. Never liked Dyer films this one was probably the worst of the lot, stick to dumb East-enders Danny.

Avengers: Infinity War - 7/10

I'm not really a fan of the MCU, but I went to see this as a favor to my son, as I have seen nearly all of the films.
I liked it a lot, definitely as a nachos/cheese/cola entertainment flick.
Lots of action, some of it a bit over the top, and some (I thought) surprising twists.

Roxanne - 8.5/10
Probably fallen off a point since I last saw it over 20 years ago but still a film with as much heart as nose. Not sure why, perhaps my expectations were nostalgia-fuelled. Some brilliant set pieces from Martin - the newspaper stand, the demolition of the churl in the bar, the “alien abduction” scene are standouts - and genuine support from Daryl Hannah, Shelley Duvall, Michael J Pollard and Rick Rossovich. A bouncy happy Bruce Smeaton score is a real bonus. Actually, I think one or two things have become a bit obvious to the modern taste, such as the “sword fight” at the start and Chris’s inability to talk to beautiful women. Doesn’t detract much from it, though, and it’s still much funnier than most comedies produced since.

As someone better than me on here said, Solo doesn't hit the lows of Rogue One, but it doesn't hit its highs either. I enjoyed it but it was too damn long. 6.5/7 out of 10.

Couch Surfing Entertainment:

Robocop 2: 4/10
Robocop 3: 2/10
Universal Soldier: A very affectionate 5/10
Outcast (2014): 2/10
Dracula (1931): 10/10

I adore this film, a 10 out of 10 for me. Or translated to my rating system 5-5. wink
