I HATE Norwegian winters.

I was supposed to fly up to Tromsø in the North of Norway today (for a film festival), but there's MASSIVE snow chaos in Oslo at the moment, so my plane was cancelled. 70 cm (about 30 inches) snow expected to fall over the course of the day.

To add insult to injury, Tromsø is struggling with STORM level winds, which makes landing difficult.

I hate this country sometimes.

Well, freezing would be a-OK. It's the insane amounts of snow that's killing normal infrastructure here, even for jaded Norwegians. Schools and kindergartens are being closed, the electricity is going off several places in the region, and planes, busses, trains are being delayed and cancelled all over the place. The authorities also recommend people to leave their cars at home. People are friggin' skiing to work at the moment. Picture taken this morning:

Haha, that actually looks lovely to me Thor.
I've done a few snowy hols in early Jan in the past (St Wolfgang Austria, Sarasalka Upper Finland) and LOVED them. But yeah, I get how it could get old if it's constant.
I bet you're sick of seeing the Northern Lights too wink

Kev, im surprised you aint reporting your weather as "Asteroid storm off nexus 9" given you s*** w*** nuts bottomless capacity for delusion!!!! wink

slight chilly breeze in sunny south uk. Winter-Flowering jasmin is out everywhere. Snow expected in the north twice in next few days. We might be down to 10 or even 9 degrees in the afternoons. smile

Good weather there, but too many tattoos on show.

Wish we had some snow here. It hasn't snowed properly in the town for about fifteen years. I remember when I couldn't get to work because I was unable to get the car out the garage. Them was the days! This past summer and autumn lasted until December.

RIGHT NOW the weather is very boring. Grey skies, light drizzle, the occasional heavy shower (but oh my golly gosh we do need more heavy rain - the periods of drought are increasingly serious each year), and temperatures which are terribly terribly unexciting... minimums of about 7ºC and maximums around 12.

The forecast for the next few days is more of the same tedium. I blame the government.

67F/21C and sunny with a delightful breeze.

I hereby condemn you for that!

(It's currently 40°F here, but feels much colder because of the wind, which shovels the hail right into your face.)

Freezing rain and snow in Houston--a rare occurrence. Right now its 28°F, heading for a low of about 23°F overnight. Hopefully this will kill a lot of bothersome bugs so we won't have to deal with them come spring.

To show solidarity with my film score brothers and sisters, I will wear a light merino wool sweater to work today. This way, I will suffer as you suffer.

Well, Thor, I just spent an hour shoveling snow while listening to you and the other montages.no guys discussing THE LAST JEDI, so that was time well spent, at least. smile

And I love cross-country skiing, so I generally don't mind snow. But infrastructure-wise, it's a hassle, of course.

He, he...that's nice.

Kev, I don't mind lots of snow if I voluntarily seek it out -- like a trip to a mountain cabin for skiing etc. (although I'll take palm trees any day!). But when it's in the city, and I have to get around (and I don't have a car), it's 100% a hassle. I hope it's all melted when I return to Oslo in a few days.

I agree that snow is wonderful if you have free time to spend on a mountain cabin to go hiking, skiing, etc. :-) Walking through a winterwonderland is great. But in the city of Cologne, winter usually just means weather that screams "f*** you!" in your face... cold, gray drizzle, unpleasent skies, wind... and as soon as the slightest bit of snow touches the ground, one third of the drivers immediately panic on the road.

Also bei uns is' grad Schneesturm, Herr Zwar...

...it's blizzarding right now in Bavaria, which brings back fond (yes, FOND!) memories of my time in Canada. Of course, German drivers can't cope with that, and there's been two pile-ups on the street outside already. Dickheads.

Ah, yes... but in Bavaria, snow is white and shiny and bright. In Cologne, snow is gray and dingy and drab. :-D
