You're stretching the definition of 'rock' and 'popular music' here, but yeah -- Carreras has a great voice. He was always in the shadow of Placido and Luciano back in the Three Tenors days.

I thought about that actually, however these albums and the Bocelli one I posted a few days ago are categorised as "popular repertoire", hence the reason I posted them here.

"I Want You (She's So Heavy)"

John at his basic-blues best and my favorite Abbey Road cut.

Billy Preston (RIP) really lights this one up! When I first heard it, but before I had the album, I thought "Is that George Martin?" I still think it sounds like Clapton's in there, but I guess not.

In 1963 Belgian-born Tony Sandler met American entertainer Ralph Young when Sandler joined the cast of the "Casino de Paris" revue at the Dunes Hotel in Las Vegas. After two seasons in that show, in 1965, Sandler and Young decided to start their own act and perform together as a singing team.

The duo "Sandler & Young" performed for two decades as headliners in the main showrooms of the major Las Vegas hotels and casinos, and at venues all over the country. They had guest spots on many national television shows, including multiple appearances on "The Ed Sullivan Show" and "Hollywood Palace." When Alan W. Livingston, then-president of Capitol Records, saw them at the Coconut Grove nightclub in the Ambassador Hotel in Hollywood, he immediately signed them to a recording contract. During the next ten years, the duo sold millions of records, making them one of the most popular acts in show business.

In the mid-1980s, at age 65, Ralph Young retired from the act to spend more time with his family in Palm Springs. Tony Sandler, two decades younger, continued to perform and produce. The pair made occasional appearances together for special occasions; their last was at the 2003 All Stars benefit show "Let Freedom Ring" in Palm Springs to honor the victims of 9/11. Ralph Young died in 2008, at age 90. Tony Sandler is still alive at 84.

You actually BOUGHT THIS? !
wink
Brm

P.s. it would be funny if somebody could Photoshop ADAM Sandler and BURT Young's face onto the covers

Right On For The Darkness

My favorite Curtis Mayfield song. Just wish I could make out some of the lyrics better.

I am an ardent Curtis Mayfield fan! Have you ever heard "[Don't Worry] If There is a Hell Below, We're All Going to Go"?:

Absolutely! Tall, skinny caucasian riding around in my '64 Ford Galaxie Custom with my 8-track blasting this one and "Move On Up", "Superfly", "Freddies Dead", etc.

Sounds like me, except it was an '85 Buick Skylark (and later a 1970 Pontiac LeMans). The 8-track sounded like being underwater with mud in your ears, so it was quickly replaced with a cassette player.

Loved my '64, even if it only got 8 mpg with the 390, four barrel.
First thing I bought after dropping out of college and getting a job? A high-tech 8-track and speakers with 2lb magnets.
Back in the day it was about the size of your magnets.
The 8-track was great, but as time went by, the tapes got worse and worse in quality, until I switched to cassettes as well. Still have the cassette deck after 40 years and some of the tapes.

1978 - A wonderful year and one of my favorite cruising songs (with great bass licks):

War- "The World is a Ghetto" (the best-selling album in the USA in 1973, according to Billboard, yet the band is totally forgotten by the pop culture collective).

I'm glad someone does! However, I may be overstating their forgottenness, because I'm pretty sure their song "Low Rider" is still well known--I hope.

Unfortunately, that's seemingly the one overly played on oldies stations, even to this day.

The radio industry began losing me in the mid '70's, with the New York Consultant issued playlists. There was more to life than Born to be Wild, Stairway to Heaven, China Grove and Margaritaville, etc. That crap still goes on to this day at certain Clear Channel outlets.

EDIT: Tried Pandora a couple of years ago. Just as lame....

Nowadays, I live pretty much on YouTube for the forgotten faves.

Their brand new album. It's superb. Hints of LABYRINTH (my fav JR), odes to Moroder, Kraftwerk, Vangelis' BLADE RUNNER and more. But still keeping in the hardhitting JR psytrance tradition.

The "hardhitting" thing is the problem I have with JR. I always wanted them to be a bit more melodic and smooth. They never did another "I Love You" (Electrotete 1992).
