Yavar As much as I love my Star Trek movie scores (and that's a lot) the only thing I can think of that compares with the day I got this box is the day I got the Arista Star Wars set. And with Star Wars I got it the day I found out about it. With the TOS box I had MONTHS of anticipation. (Five years?!? Seriously?) And now I even have the missing tracks from the Star Trek 50th set. I have achieved Nerd-vana.

"The Empath" is the real masterpiece. "Return to Tomorrow" also excellent. "Metamorphosis" and "Is There In Truth No Beauty?" most worthy. Duning wasn't noted as an action composer, yet delivers some of the most jarring, propulsive action cues in all of Star Trek in Truth No Beauty.

Wow, 6 years since this still amazing collection was released. I missed the actual day by a week, but still wanted to mark the occasion. Still listening to this set very often and still very happy that what seemed impossible at one time now stands on the shelf along side Lost in Space and Mission Impossible and The Wild Wild West and Johnny Quest. (and soon Land of the Giants!) Incredible!

I'm listening to them all again. I've since split them into albums by episode, but I think I'll go back and listen disc by disc. I still listen to a lot of it quite frequently, but not as obsessively as I did for a few years there. BTW, 13 of the 15 discs are on Amazon Music, Google Play and Spotify. (Spotify is missing Catspaw and Friday's Child.) They're missing The Cage / Where No Man Has Gone Before (too bad, it's my favorite disc) and Amok Time / The Doomsday Machine. Presumably because GNP still holds the rights. Interestingly they do have Shore Leave and The Naked Time. Probably because they're on separate discs. Lawyers, go figure.

But perhaps I should revisit. Every Fried STAR TREK score has its fans, who are not necessarily fans of all the others. My favorites are "The Paradise Syndrome" and "Shore Leave," followed by "Amok Time." But I don't dislike any of them outright.

Honestly, out of all the scores, only I, Mudd lands with a clang for me. Tribbles is the second least favorite, since I'm not a fan of comedy scoring. Other than that, I love them all. Even The Man Trap.

Even The Man Trap. As much as I rant about The Man Trap I listen to the good parts of that way more than any part of I, Mudd. Tribbles is clearly "comedy scoring" and yet it's so good that I never think of it as such. Welp. Gonna be listening to The Box today...

To be fair to Tribbles, there are a number of serious cues that are great and staples of the season. Also "Big Fite" is probably the best lighthearted fight music since Shore Leave.

The fight music is great, as are some of the creeping dread cues. Same with "Friday's Child." I Love that score a lot, but some of the cutsey poo bits wear thin for me.
