Read 'em and weep fellas: It's 106F/41C in Berkeley right now. And me, I've gotta leave the air conditioned library to go home and eat lunch.... It got up to 109, but now it's heading back to normal, but more humid than usual.

The past few days have been weird. While it's been pretty much "business as usual" weather-wise, it's been weird outdoors. There are wildfires, burning continuously north of here since Sunday night. So Monday morning, I walk into the interior hallway of my building, and I smell smoke. The smell is there all the way to work, but it goes away later when the wind picks up. Tuesday, it's mostly the same, except that during the middle of the day, I could not see the hills that are big, not more than 2 miles away. But Wednesday was the oddest. The sun came up and was out, but it was a little cloudy. And there was still smoke hanging in the air, not being blown away. So the sun hung there in the sky, casting milky ORANGE light on the ground. It was like being in a science fiction movie.
