Yes. Yes, it is. And I suspect we are not done in that regard. Something interesting usually happens in Tests played at Headingley (and rarely in England's favour). The Second Test begins there on Friday.

Michael Vaughan has suggested dropping Broad for Woakes to shake things up a little. Jennings has replaced Stoneman in the squad, so he'll open with Cook.

Heh - you bringing back this thread is like me bumping “Miss you Jerry”!

I managed to watch the last few wickets yesterday. A rare treat.

Was it safe to say the bowlers won it?
One if them was 6 for 66.

Was it safe to say the bowlers won it?

Yup. Nice to see England finally win a Test match. The bowlers won it in the first innings.

Couple of nice innings from Buttler this series. A surprise pick and it's paid off. Great 80 not out yesterday, with a nice six thumped out of the ground and they had a hard time finding the ball. Jimmy Anderson took five wickets, and he'll be 36 yrs old in July! He's only 23 wickets behind Glen McGrath now...

Having said all that, England are still wildly inconsistent at home and when India arrive in two months they will have a major task on our hands.

Away from the football, there's another ball-tampering scandal brewing in St Lucia.

Looks like this is sweets again. Surely Sri Lanka can't be punished when everyone's doing it?

Indeed, pretty damn impressive. Plus, Morgan becomes England's highest ODI scorer, and now has the fastest 50.

Aaaaand we're off! smile The summer of cricket begins. A five match Test series against India, starting at Edgbaston today. India have never won here.

Rashid is picked as England's spinner. Jennings opens with Cook. Sam Curran is the first change bowler.

Will Jimmy Anderson's shoulder hold together? Which Broad will turn up?

India's Pujara is dropped for Rahul which has surprised many.

England win the toss and will bat first. Please do not end up 50-3, please.

India: Murali Vijay, Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli (capt.), Ajinkya Rahane, Dinesh Karthik (wk), Hardik Pandya, R Ashwin, Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma

England: Alastair Cook, Keaton Jennings, Joe Root (capt.), Dawid Malan, Jonny Bairstow (wk), Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler, Sam Curran, Adil Rashid, Stuart Broad, James Anderson

A welcome return for Bill's cricket thread. Be careful what you wish for, Senor Carson!

England 80-odd for 1 at lunch. An early exit for Cookie, Root and Jennings going steady (the latter having apparently been dropped in the slips). Bunter W is up next, followed by Brown T and Flashman H, no doubt.

Jennings inside edged on to his stumps for 42. Malan out almost immediately lbw on review. Sigh.

Against the run of play, foolish runout of Joe Root on 80 by Bairstow. And now Bairstow is out for 70. Oh, and Buttler for 0. 224/6.

And Stokes. That went well.

I was looking forward to the start of another Test series but England suck the joy out of it so quickly.

England collapsed in horrid fashion but Sam Curran has dragged us to the point where India need 194 to win, so a slight glimmer. Top three gone, India 49/3. Typically, the lacklustre Broad has snagged two wickets, saving his spot for the Second Test.

Heh - never in doubt. Looks as if India is a one-man team...

Nice to win our 1,000th test match.

We're out of jail. I can't believe we won the Test. At the end of day one when our batting collapsed, I thought India were going to score 350-400. Thanks to Sam Curran, they didn't. And thanks to Sam Curran, we had a total India couldn't reach.

1-0, four to play. Stokes in court next week so I'm expecting Moeen Ali to come in. Need to do something about our horrible Lords record.
