The gentleman who wrote those wonderful Music From LOTR books (I'm drawing a blank at 6:20 am, sorry) posted on Twitter that John Williams is now "back to to 100% health".
The official Twitter account for the LSO also confirms that John Williams sent them a very sweet "letter of regret" that he couldn't work with them on this new SW score.

Episode 7 has already been rumored to be almost a one-off story, a single grand adventure, which already seems to be undermining a huge advantage going in of knowing you can tell one big epic 3-part saga if you wanted to. I'm afraid it was this rabid desire to hire J.J. and his lack of interest in committing to the full trilogy that forced Episode 7 to become a one-off.
Star Wars was a complete story as well. Just because TFA (maybe) is a "one-off story" doesn't mean that its characters and themes wouldn't then continue to the next one. like they did with The Empire Strikes Back.
What makes something NOT a "one-off story" anyway? The only thing I can think of is a cliffhanger, or resolving a cliffhanger. I would dread Star Wars if every movie ended on a cliffhanger/defeat/Empire Strikes Back call to action.

I could've sworn they had the director of Episode VIII locked in for IX, but at this point, I'll be amazed if Abrams doesn't bully his way into making all three.
Rian Johnson gets a shot at writing IX, but he's only locked in to direct (and write) VIII.

Doug Adams? I don't see that on his Twitter page...
I believe this story. For one, Williams sketches are already so detailed, all the orchestrator was really doing was copying it out to the different format. It of course made sense to hire orchestators to do this for most movies, to free up Williams time to keep writing during a movie's tight deadlines.
But for this score Williams started a year before the film's release date, and he even turned down a Spielberg movie to solely work on this. He has the time, so why not do everything himself to make sure everything is exactly the way he wants it.
I think he feels like the Star Wars Saga will be his biggest legacy, and also is very excited about this particular movie.
Disney is currently live streaming a panel discussion on The Force Awakens at Star Wars Celebration Anaheim that will likely end with a new trailer and/or clip.
Maybe if you put Brian Tyler's name on this, people might post in this thread. I wish I could read our comments when we saw the first Phantom Menace teaser.
