I'm fine with the electronics. My issue with this score – and it's sort of a general problem I have with David Arnold – is that every scene is scored like it's the climax.

Blame the film, not the composer.

I was talking about my problem with the score, so I don't know why this is a blame thing.

Purchased! Really hoping this is a sign of things to come, especially older Barry scores!

Amusing thought: when I saw this thread title I assumed it was announcing a sequel to the musical.

You weren’t tempted to say it was a Valentine’s Day gift, then!

My question is this: has DAD sold enough for LLL to get permission to release other Bond scores that need this fantastic deluxe treatment?

What ... with that title? Anyhow, I'd reserved the Francis Lai (romantic!) score Three Into Two Won't Go for that ... smile

But perhaps I should have opted for La Dolce Vita given the Italian connection.

I played the Score presentation yesterday for the first time ... at approx. 98' this isn't a casual play and I did so want to give it my attention. I need not have worried ... wow! I struggled to believe that the additional music would add that much to what, for me, was one of the lesser JB007 scores ... but it does. By bringing in slower, more melodic pieces (e.g. Cuban Car) and those few quirky moments (e.g. Virtual reality) it allows the score to breathe.

Back in 2002 the score seemed wall-to-wall electronic/brass overload ... However, when compared with the tedium of the last two scores I began to appreciate this score more, listening for the themes which are present but often hidden by the sound overload. The action sequences remain so (though improvements in my hi-fi set-up these last few years have allowed me to appreciate such busy music a whole lot more) but by expanding the album to include the rest of the score makes for a much better listening experience.

Highly recommended.

Very glad to note the absence of buyer's remorse, Mitch!

Very glad to note the absence of buyer's remorse, Mitch!

Given its price, I was somewhat nervous about buying this release (and there are one or two purchases I do question ...) but here: I think it's well-worth the spend. Think along the lines of the separate release to Tomorrow Never Dies (1997): by combining the two releases (eliminate several duplicated tracks) the complete score for that earlier film works wonderfully well ... this score, IMHO, is nowhere near as enjoyable but this expansion has the same effect.

The expanded version is a great album. Captures Arnold at his peak Bond.

From the LLL Questions thread yesterday:

Dear MV,

How are Die Another Day sales and are EON happy with them?

Just about half way sold out. EON was very happy with the experience and product.

Hope they give "The World Is Not Enough" the same treatment. Plus, because the End Credits was just the Bond theme, all of that could be on it as well.
