I have been watching some of CRIME STORY from the late 80's. Someone had the bright idea to transfer MIAMI VICE to 1963 and set in Las Vegas. Pretty bad but it does have serious camp value if you watch it a certain way (for example the parade of vintage cars that look like they just left the showroom ; the over-the top production design with every set & suit color coded,,,, as a bad example of what MAD MEN did so well) bruce

Especially in its first year. Great period setting, fantastic cars, exceptional cast and a great arc. The second season got episodic and silly in spots, but overall, this was superior television. I enjoyed it a lot more than Miami Vice, which was an entirely different program.

I'd read somewhere (here?) that the original USA version were the syndicated TV versions, so scenes tended to end too abruptly (for commercials), while the European release was more complete. This reissue sounds like the only change is they're single side discs. That's true on one episode: "The Vampire" (see the end of chapter 2).
Thanks! At least they only screwed up one spot. Just a faster fade-out, or is some dialog or action missing? Answer: Just a faster fade-out. But I don't remember the original finishing scene, by the way.
A little addition: they did the 'faster fade-out' on "The Zombie" too: see the middle end of chapter 4 because the chapter doesn't match the network break (sic). I am revisiting my Kolchak set for the sake of it.

The lead character was a thug who behaved like no real cop would (and what's with all the hot chicks falling all over him?). Stories totally predictable; guy says no to Luca, Luca kills guy; repeat Joseph Wiseman was the best thing in it
