This past weekend was grandparents day and it might be safe to say of all holidays on the calendar it seems to be the least appreciated. It is also one of the newer holidays. Do you feel that has something to do with the reason it has not become a big day, The fast moving world of today can't adjust to the old ideas of a new holiday breaking into the mainstream. Any opinions on this subject?

I don't even observe Mother's Day or Father's Day. Why would I recognize Grandparents Day?

I think people see it for what it is. Another attempt to get people to spend their money on gifts. Let it fall by the wayside. Let it die.

I'd never heard of it until this year, but I don't see what's so bad about it.

Although sadly, I only have one grandparent left (my dad's dad). frown

Many of the so-called "holidays" like "Secretary's Day", "Boss's Day", "Children's Day" and "Grandparent's Day" I suspect were INVENTED by the HALLMARK CARD COMPANY, which is responsible for something called "Sweetest Day", whatever the heck that is.

Except for my daughter, I have no family, so I just make sure I give her as much attention as she wants, all the time.

Every day seems like grandparents day. You gotta pay respect to your grannies and grandpas.

Besides, I'm a grandparent too, and I did talk to my granddaughter on Saturday, and I doubt very much if she knew anything about it; I didn't know anything about it, either.

When I was very young I asked my Father why there was no "Kid's Day". After all there was "Father's Day" and "Mother's Day". His reply was, everyday is Kids Day!

What's wrong with showing people a bit of affection or appreciation?

A manufactured event day that maybe causes you to tell someone you care about them... not really a bad thing.

I have no Grandparents left...if I did, and had I known about this day, I would have done something...

I didn't know they had a special day.

I have two grandparents left -- my mom's mom (who is in reasonably good health) and my dad's mom (who is in poor health). They're both in their mid 80's.

I observed it when I had a surviving grandparent.

Unfortunately, it has been 30 years since then.

I still have a grandfather and have never heard of it. Now that I'm a grandfather myself, am I getting gypped?! Nah, our family has always celebrated our grandfathers on Father's Day and our gradmothers on Mother's Day. I got my first grandfather's card last June.

I have one grandmother left. She is 98 years old. Physically she's not too well, but mentally crystal clear.
