TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 25
STAR WARS: EPISODE VII and INDIANA JONES 5---a reliable "source" in Lucasfilm updated the status of the two movies with the following unconfirmed information:
"[Cast so far includes] Ian McDiarmid, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Billy Dee Williams, Anthony Daniels, Warwick Davies, Benedict Cumberbatch and Gary Oldman. I believe Cumberbatch and Oldman were pursued for the same role, but I don't know how that will work out with the script changes, but I'm told they are both involved.
Regarding Harrison Ford, two more Indiana Jones features are in the negotiation stages as per Ford's contract clause on Star Wars, which is the primary reason he didn't 'publicly' or 'privately' commit, or so I'm told.
Many Star Wars pre-production issues, an 'inadequate' central story which nobody would stamp off on, a problematic initial release date and an 'indecisive' director (J.J. Abrams) with the hardest gig in the industry. It's not going to be a cakewalk, but it will be a product shipping with the majority of its original parts.
Ultimately it's about twins, and which will take a path towards darkness and which will follow in their fathers footsteps, or at least that is what it used to be, that may come later as I think changes are being undertaken to bring the original cast into the forefront of the story leading to ramifications that lead up to the next generation of Skywalkers."
THE EQUALIZER 2---sequel underway to the unreleased Denzel Washington movie based on the 1980s CBS series that starred Edward Woodward. Sony Pictures hired writer Richard Wenk to return for the sequel after test screenings of the original movie went "through the roof" and earned "the highest scores for an R-rated movie in the studio's history." The original movie has Washington playing retired intelligence operative Robert McCall working at a Home Depot when he helps a prostitute which leads to a confrontation with the Russian mob. Chloe Moretz, Melissa Leo and Bill Pullman star in the original which premiers on September 26.
EAST OF EDEN---Gary Ross (THE HUNGER GAMES) is the director/writer of this movie based on the John Steinbeck novel. Jennifer Lawrence is expected to reunite with Ross to play Cathy Ames, mother of Caleb and Aron Trask. The movie may be filmed in two parts which would focus on the parents and the brothers as adults. The novel was made into an Oscar-winning movie in 1955 that starred James Dean and Julie Harris.
TED 2---Seth McFarlane said Amanda Seyfried will co-star in the sequel as Mark Wahlberg's new love interest. McFarlane said Mila Kunis will either return in a cameo role or not be in the sequel due to McFarlane and the co-writers having creative differences. The original movie is the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time.
TRUE DETECTIVE---director Cary Fukunaga is giving up his directing job and will return as executive producer for Season 2. Fukunaga has sold a contemporary war series to Fox.
BATTLE CREEK---CBS cop series from Vince Gilligan (BREAKING BAD) and David Shore (HOUSE, MD) in which two opposites, a police detective and an FBI agent, team up to fight crime in Battle Creek, Michigan.
WE'RE THE MILLERS---sequel underway with Jennifer Aniston and Jason Sudeikis expected to return.
AMERICAN BLOOD---Bradley Cooper is the star/producer of this Warner Bros. movie based on the upcoming novel about an undercover cop/mob informant who is in the witness protection program in New Mexico and gets involved in a missing woman investigation. This is projected to be a movie franchise.
TO WALK IN THE CLOUDS---Joseph Gordon-Levitt will play French high-wire artist Philippe Petit who christened the World Trade Center in 1974 by walking a tight-rope between the Center's two towers. Robert Zemeckis (FORREST GUMP) is the director/co-writer.
BABYLON FIELDS---Skeet Ulrich (JERICHO) plays two roles in this NBC zombie series as a priest and his zombie junkie brother who live in a town where the dead come alive.
ONLY HUMAN---CBS medical series pilot starring Jamie Lee Curtis as a successful doctor and mother of quadruplets who were raised on a reality show.
BOYCHOIR---Dustin Hoffman, Debra Winger and Kathy Bates star in this movie about a troubled boy and his demanding choir master.
POINT BREAK---the remake movie stars Luke Bracey (GI JOE: RETALIATION) as Johnny Utah which was originally played by Keanu Reeves in the original movie.
RUN ALL NIGHT---Liam Neeson, Joel Kinnaman and Ed Harris star in this movie about a hitman and his estranged son who are targeted by the hitman's mob boss.
LEGEND---movie underway with Tom Hardy is in talks to play twin brothers Ronald and Reginald Kray, famous London nightclub owners in the 1950s and 1960s who were involved in murder, robbery and arson. Brian Helgeland (LA CONFIDENTIAL) wrote the script.
SHREK---DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg said a fifth movie is being planned, "...you can be confident that we’ll have another chapter in the Shrek series. We’re not finished, and more importantly, neither is he."
DREDD---Karl Urban said he has had "conversations" with Lionsgate and writer Alex Garland about a sequel but the sequel chances are slim. The movie had disappointing box office results but very good video sales.
THE FLASH---Michelle Harrison will play The Flash's mother in the CW spin-off series.
CODE NAME: JOHNNY WALKER---movie underway based on the autobiography of a SEAL team interpreter battling insurgents in Iraq.
THE FIELD---Ray Liotta will co-star as a corrupt arms dealer in this movie set in New Delhi about an undercover operation involving an Indian mafia family. Rohit Karn Batra is the director.

Regarding Star Wars sounds like it's going to be Han and Lea's sibling at odds with Luke's sibling. One using the force for good, one gone to the dark side. We just need the cousins to fall in love. This is one messed up family!
I don't know if this is a spoiler, exactly, but in the Expanded Universe novels, Han and Leia's son Jacen turns to the dark side and becomes a Sith Lord, and I'm pretty sure his twin sister Jaina is the one who takes him down. I haven't read those novels so I don't know exactly how it plays out, or if Luke's son Ben is involved in anyway. The whole timeframe post-ROTJ has been very well covered by the novels and comics, and if it all is technically "canon," then I'm very curious as to what kind of original storyline they will come up with. Of course, they could just decide to throw the novels out and ignore them completely.

If you go back and watch Alias, a lot of which was written by JJ Abrams, you can see that the guy can write characters and drama.
Uh, no.
Alias is guilty of a lot of things. Firstly, bad writing: every episode has a slow scene with someone crying or looking reflective while an indie pop song played. Every episode also had the same "jenga style" cutaways and plot-twists that became the defining writing style of Lost (which was the project that made Abrams leave Alias after Season 3). Hell, Season One has a two part episode where they note for note ripped off the original Die Hard. If this guy can write, then I'm goddamned Stanley Kubrick.
Abrams is a purebred hack. Can you name anyone in the history of entertainment who's entire career is based off of grave-robbing someone else's franchise or ideas?
well firstly I do agree that the dometic scenes with the music are not that great, across the board the least effective element of the show, but that was a trend of that time and place in that era.
Otherwise, you are way off base on how successful the show was. It had troves of recognition

As far as that Die Hard referenced episode, well I think a lot of shows and movies have referenced Die Hard, it does not mean that they are terrible shows or movies. Homage perhaps, and as far as the jenga style editing, I think for that show with that material it works very well, and at the time it was inventive and effective. That it was used later on Lost does not mean it did not work or was not creative earlier on Alias. Yes I still think as far as plot structures and drama JJ Abrams can write, perhaps his weakest point is that domestic relationship stuff, I think it is the weakest part of his Star Trek work. But that does not mean he is a terrible writer. I mean since you mentioned Stanley Kubrick, there is lots of areas that Stanley did not do well. But, no I am sure that you probably almost nothing like Stanley Kubrick, and that is a good thing - since he is dead.
And that comment about JJ grave robbing someone elses franchise or ideas. What does that mean, that seems awfully harsh and unfounded without some further detailed information. Who exactly did he rob, and how?
