MONDAY, JANUARY 6 STAR WARS--director Jon Schnepp (THE VENTURE BROS.) said about one of the two "origin" spin-off movies, "One of them is Boba Fett. It is. I know. I know for a fact. I will never reveal my source, but it is the one written by Lawrence Kasdan." Kasdan is helping re-write STAR WARS: EPISODE VII and wrote THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK. The other origin spin-off movie is rumored to about the younger days of Han Solo. Also, Marvel Entertainment will acquire exclusive rights to Star Wars comics and graphic novels beginning in 2015. Dark Horse Comics previously had the rights. BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN---a reliable source said about Lex Luthor being in the sequel, "Yes. And sorry, I’m not at liberty to reveal the ID of the other villain at this time… but the character is highly rumored to be in the film." About Jason Momoa playing either Martian Manhunter or Aquaman, "Nope and nope. Neither of those characters are in this film." The source added that no Batman villain is in the sequel and, "It’s a Superman film – a Superman film that just so happens to include Batman and Wonder Woman – but a Superman film nonetheless." MONTEZUMA---movie underway about the war between Spanish explorer Hernando Cortez and Montezuma. Steven Spielberg is interested in directing with Javier Bardem interested in the Cortez role. The 50-year-old script was written by Dalton Trumbo (SPARTACUS) and is being rewritten by Steve Zaillian (SCHINDLER'S LIST). STARSHIP TROOPERS---writer Zack Sentz said about the remake of the 1997 movie based on the Robert Heinlein novel, "less a satire & more an actual adaptation of the Heinlein novel. An Officer & a Gentleman in power armor." JERSEY BOYS---photo released from the Clint Eastwood biomovie about Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons. Premiere is June 20, 2014. JUPITER ASCENDING---photo released from the Wachowskis movie of Channing Tatum starring as Caine, a half-albino, half-wolf alien hunter who must protect Mila Kunis' character. MAXIM---Eva Longoria was chosen as the magazine's Woman of the Year. FAST & FURIOUS 7---Paul Walker's character, Brian O'Conner, will "retire" rather than be killed off. KATEE SACKHOFFF---the star of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA is lobbying for a role in a Batman sequel, "I think I might give away my firstborn to have an opportunity to play Harley Quinn." She added, "I'd love to play Wonder Woman. I remember auditioning for the Wonder Woman television show and being told that I wasn't the Wonder Woman type, but if I wanted to play the best friend, I could audition for that. And I remember thinking to myself, 'You obviously haven't seen my work!" Sackhoff also wants to part of the new Star Wars sequels, "Star Wars meant everything to me growing up. Star Wars was, I mean, it was the first time I remember seeing three movies that all kind of went together. It was just an amazing final understanding of what a trilogy was...I was absolutely obsessed, I mean I wanted to be... The sad thing is, I never wanted to be Princess Leia, I always wanted to be Han Solo! [laughs] I've never really been drawn to these female roles, but I think that The Clone Wars was so much fun for me to play, I mean a warrior....If J.J. would listen, I would play a rock in the Star Wars movies. I think that they're fantastic, I think that he's a great choice, and I'm excited to see what happens in that world." DOWNTON ABBEY---creator Julian Fellowes said about a possible Season 6, "I don't know yet if there is a Season 6, but it's not going to go on forever. It won't be PERRY MASON."

My Inner Geek started screaming "YES!!!!!!" Chances are it won't happen, but it would cool beyond words. Ford A. Thaxton

MONTEZUMA - Well, it's about time someone did a film about this. Epic tale, worthy of David Lean. Years ago, I remember reading a book about unproduced screenplays, among them one about Alexander the Great, by Oliver Stone, which did get made. Another was about the Mexican Conquest, which may be referring to the Trumbo script mentioned here. Sounds fascinating. Wild story. (For instance, when the Spaniards arrived in Mexico, they were greeted as gods by the natives, who referred to a prophecy that the gods would return to Mexico in the exact year the Spaniards arrived. Amazing. And don't think the Spaniards didn't capitalize on that one, big-time!) Hope this gets made, though, considering all other projects seem to be geared to adolescent males, the chances of this being produced dim by comparison....

On the other hand, with a title like MONTEZUMA, a lot of people might think it's about the U.S. Marines. "From the halls of Montezuma, etc...." Which would be misleading.

STAR WARS--director Jon Schnepp (THE VENTURE BROS.) said about one of the two "origin" spin-off movies, "One of them is Boba Fett. It is. I know. I know for a fact. I will never reveal my source, but it is the one written by Lawrence Kasdan." I would LOVE to see Joe Johnston direct a Boba Fett movie. He was such a big part in the character's creation. As for the Star Wars comic license going to Marvel, it's kind of sad. Dark Horse Comics will have been its home for the last 24 years when it switches in 2015. The current ongoing comic, simply titled Star Wars, is terrific and is exactly the kind of book I've been wanting from Dark Horse for years now. Will be sad to see it end already halfway through its second year. STARSHIP TROOPERS---writer Zack Sentz said about the remake of the 1997 movie based on the Robert Heinlein novel, "less a satire & more an actual adaptation of the Heinlein novel. An Officer & a Gentleman in power armor." That would be great. I never cared for the 1997 movie and always wondered why they decided to make it a satire, as I always understood the book was very straight-forward and serious. I already disliked the movie when it came out, but seeing it again recently, I was laughing at just how badly dated it is now. It's literally unwatchable nowadays. MAXIM---Eva Longoria was chosen as the magazine's Woman of the Year. To paraphrase George Steinbrenner from Seinfeld: "Eva Longoria, hu? Nothin' wrong with that." KATEE SACKHOFFF---the star of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA is lobbying for a role in a Batman sequel, "I think I might give away my firstborn to have an opportunity to play Harley Quinn." Unless they were to dramatically reinvent the character to the point it no longer resembled the original version, Sackhoff would be such a terrible choice for Harley Quinn. Even putting aside the fact I find Sackhoff incredibly overrated on the fanboy front, she doesn't resemble the character in the slightest. Harley is short, petite, goofy and has a bubbly, quirky personality. None of which make me think of Sackhoff. Currently, I think Melissa Rauch from The Big Bang Theory would make an ideal Harley. She possesses all those qualities.
