Both Danny Wells and Christopher Welch died November 28th and December 3rd, at ages 72 and 48 respectively. Danny was Luigi's actor / VA on "The Super Mario Bros. Super Show"; Christopher was Tails on "The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog". (he'd appeared in a couple of Spielberg movies later on - The War of the Worlds and Lincoln)
The Super Mario Bros. Super Show was a childhood favorite. I was disappointed to find out a few years ago that it hasn't aged well at all, but it sure was fun as a kid and I have good memories of watching it with my friends after school.
Sad that Wells and Lou Albano (Mario) are both gone now.
So it seems that after some investigating, that Christopher Evan Welch did NOT voice Tails. Tails' VA was a different Christopher Welch (an 11 year old child actor, presumably now in his 30s) that had a one-off role from acting.
