He was appropriately creepy in a campy fun way. I enjoyed him in the Kolchak episode "Chopper," (of course Kolchak always had great guest stars) and a couple of episodes of Barney Miller. I love the opening sentences of his imdb biography: Character actor Jay Robinson owned a pair of the narrowest, cruelest-looking eyes in 1950s Hollywood. Sitting through two hours of dreck was made almost bearable by his quirky, delightfully mannered, frequently histrionic performance. It didn't seem to quite jell with everyone else's performance, but then everyone else was being boring while he was being interesting, so who cared? I looked for him often but saw him seldom. Always wondered why he had so few roles. Not that many roles would have suited his style; he was kind of like Jonathan Harris in that regard. Jay's Caligula in "The Robe" is one of my earliest screen memories, and I still love to watch him stealing every scene. He's the only one who could give Vincent Price a run for his money in the sneer stakes ! God Bless, Jay...and thank you. He was awesome. I remember his evil tirade at the end of 'The Robe' (repeated at the opening of 'Demetrius'): 'Then Christians die you shall, go, both of you, into your Kingdom!' I also enjoy the scene in 'Demetrius' when he is questioning Claudius about Jesus. At one point his dagger scabbard gets knocked out of place and he tries to replace it while carrying on with his lines. Thank you for entertaining us, Jay, RIP. That's inane!" He had sooo many memorable TV credits and he was always a joy to watch. Several episodes of Mannix and always excellent regardless of the role. Robinson also managed to be a hateful S.O.B. in the opening of the S4 Hawaii Five-O episode "Cloth of Gold." That's something for any actor to be proud of. RIP One can't help compare Robinson's Caligula with the fuller and more rounded portrayal by John Hurt. A great actor, I barely recognized him in Bram Stoker's Dracula in 1992 when he played as Mr. Hawkins for less than 60 seconds and still stole the scene from Keanu Revves.
