I need your help in answering this question - How do we decide which film music album to buy?

Last month this question was posted on the discussion board and many of you responded to this survey. I would like to extend this survey for another week in order to gather more responses.

If you haven't already done so, would you please take this 10 minute survey?

http://www.surveygizmo.com/s3/1290324/Film-Music-Enthusiasts

I would appreciate your time and insight into how and why you choose to purchase film music score albums.

I appreciate your willingness to help me answer this question and LOOK FORWARD TO SHARING THE RESULTS WITH ALL OF YOU in the near future. Thank you.

"If you think you have been injured as a result of taking part in this survey, please contact..."

I hope it's a real survey, because I've just done it. I notice that there wasn't an option for compilations or even double-headers, so, for "Film" I put PREMINGER AT FOX, and for "Composer" I put DAVID RAKSIN. Maybe I should have ignored that set and put something else.

I'll do your survey -- whether it's "real" or not.

It certainly seemed real to me, although I think you gave it the wrong title, It's more a survey of what were the last 5 soundtracks we bought and whether or not we bought them before or after we saw the film, rather than our motivations for buying them.

I started to take the poll, but I felt like I was checking into rehab and talking to the intake clinician.

I thought it was a solid survey. I submitted my answers.

I did, too. Any way for us to know about the results of your study in the future?

Mr D, he says that he'll share the results with us here soon. I wonder if my "Preminger at Fox" answer as a "film title" will be disqualified... Dan, if you're looking in, and have problems with that choice, I'll give you another title.

I think you can relax -- he put in film title for simplicity and he'll know what you meant.

Completed. smile

Although I wish my answers could have been more varied, but basically I only purchase scores after having first heard them in a film and knowing already that it's something I liked.

I rarely do because I've enjoyed some scores in the film and found them lacking on the album, so I only purchase based on hearing good samples or streaming the full album before buying it when possible.

Done! Looking forward to the results.

With few exceptions, I tend to prefer hearing a score's full album presentation if possible before purchasing these days - whether streamed on the internet or borrowed as a CD from the library. It isn't necessary for me to have experienced the score within its film to enjoy listening to it on its own. Some examples of scores I own and really enjoy for films I've never seen and have no real intention of ever seeing: The Fountain, Kung Fu Panda, Tomb Raider: The Cradle Of Life, and How To Train Your Dragon.

Hmm, really? Somethin' like five scores on the same medium - for movies already watched - from the same composer purchased because (of course) they were by him?!

Not exactly. 5 scores (actually more, because one was the Preminger set) on CD, all by different composers, purchased without ever having seen the films, and because they were composed by the composer.
