As expected, Zimmer's MoS is equally loved as well as hated. So here's an interesting question, would Tyler Bates, Snyder's usual composer, have done a better job scoring the new Superman flick?

Write up a list of every living and still working composer you know of. Number them. Pick a number, hunt down which composer on the list that is. He or she would have done a better job.

Tyler Bates would never do a better job on [PUT RANDOM FILM HERE] than [PUT RANDOM COMPOSER HERE]. I'm not a fan of Hansi, but at least he has more experience and instinct than Tyler Bates.

Depends how much Elliot Goldenthal there was in it. A Goldenthal Superman score, now that would be awesome.

Like a lot of people, I have a love/hate relationship with the Zimmer style. On the one hand, I bloody hate that repetitive, heavy handed percussion action music thing he does on tracks like "Oil Rig". (Although I will say, he's got a way with rhythms.) On the other, I have to tell you, I'm bloody addicted to that repetitious but exalting, swelling, emotional summation thing he does, which is most flourished in "What Are You Doing When You're Not Saving The World?" Addicted, I tell you. I hate and I love all at once. Bottom line: Though there are bits I hate, for the bits I love I say, no, I'll take Zimmer's.

Saw movie today, good, not great, but as I thought it would be the score was terrible. Tyler Bates would not have done better. I wonder why they just did not go to Williams and ask for a new theme. Powell, Silvestri or Folk would have done a great score with themes and Giacchino would have just used William's themes. Do not think Young could have done anything for this film, he is too dark.

Folk would give us themes, which Zimmer has lost his ability with and I think Folk could do a serious POLICE ACADEMY for a superhero movie.

I don't believe Bates would have done a better job than Zimmer. But I do believe Zimmer could have done a much better job than he did, were he allowed to come up with something melodic, symphonic and "old school". He's a very capable and versatile composer. He's just too much of a "yes man" and has gotten himself locked into this "wall of sound" schtick.

Even YOR and the band of his tribe could do a better job than the abominable.
