I am talking here about the music itself, not what a recent thread said about the best opening credits ever. I will go with GIANT-56- DIMITRI TIOMKIN,although there are a bunch others I would consider. ANY CHOICES?

"Who will rescue me?" Theme from the animated movie The Rescuers. Aided by the illustrations over which the song played.

Well, if fear is an emotion (and it is), I like the library music over the main title of Night of the Living Dead (1968). That music really fills me with a sense of dread and foreboding. It's creepy as hell.

Bernstein's To Kill A Mockingbird. A great mix of visuals with superb scoring!

On that note, DOLORES CLAIBORNE's main title cue is beautifully sad.

Yea, this basically takes the cake for "emotionally-resonant opening themes".

OK....I've had a couple of drinks, I'm on a roll (and I know I'll regret this later)

But Star Wars: The Phantom menace.

I cry every time i see the opening credits roll because I am reminded of how bad this movie is and how good it could have been. So emotional.

Horner's opening of An American Tail. Goosebumps and tears from the first time I've heard it. It's a shame it's so short.

Is that a nomination or a comment about this thread? smile

Absolutely agree and this would be tied with opening titles and music for "Donnie Brasco" and "Out of Africa".

TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD was my first thought too.

My second was another Bernstein - his swan song:

Superman: The Movie

I'd like to say Superman II because of the flashbacks, but we are talking about composition here - that goes to John Williams.

If I can choose another emotional opening credit - it will need to be STAR WARS.

Once again - the music is what does it for me - not the visuals - because if the music sounded anything like they do in today's "so called" blockbusters - I don't think the emotion would be there.

Couldn't agree more.

Of course, now we risk being criticized for daring to have this view, as many think only smaller, more "intimate" scores can count as being truly emotional on the human level; not the bigger, blockbuster-type film scores....

Oh, well. I only know what moves *me* emotionally.

Also a shame that the DVD adds a bunch of additional "walla" over Horner's beautiful main title cue. mad
