While film music is best known for it's instrumental achievements, many singers have over the years sung film composer's music. Sometimes right from the original soundtracks, Sometimes on the singer's own albums. Like my other thread PRETTY MUSIC OF GENRE MUSIC, I would like to delve deeply into film music that has been sung by singers over the years. Like the other thread some people might be surprise to find certain film themes did actually have vocal versions done on them. If you like, please add to this ongoing list with your own selections.

KING KONG-76- JOHN BARRY- Yes Andy Williams did sing the main love theme from this film, the song was called ARE YOU IN THERE. While the vocal is a far cry from John's many great variations of the theme in the film, Andy as always does a good competent job with the pretty ballad.

Here's Andy Williams sing the Theme from KING KONG "Are you in there?"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-UO2bjGZSg

This version has got to have one of the longest Intro sections I've ever heard for a song. Pretty dreadful too. In my opinion:

Williams also had a major hit singing Barry's BORN FREE back in the day.

This reminds me of a blurb I saw in the pressbook for "Marnie". Supposedly Nat "King" Cole did a vocal version of the theme. I've never been able to verify the actual existence of such a recording. Does anybody have a lead on this?

ORCA-77- ENNIO MORRICONE- While CAROL CONNERS, did a short vocal version of the main theme on the original film, Opera singer SANDRA WOLF, did a fine vocal version of the theme, I only wish she didn't hum the midsection of the song, but sang it with words.

Johnny Mathis recorded a vocal version of Barry's 'Midnight Cowboy' Theme on one of his albums many moons ago. It wasn't very good.

I generally don't like the idea of lyrics being clumped onto a theme years later, with no obvious connection to the film. It rarely works.

Yes he did and I agree with you on that one I didn't think it was that good, However Mathis, a fine singer, has done his share of film themes and one I really loved was from MICKI AND MAUDE-84- MICHEL LEGRAND'S song for the film . On the original film. STEPHEN BISHOP did a nice version, but MATHIS version made me cry.

There was a LP put out in the 60's which had a bunch of film theme vocals sung by NAT KING COLE, not from big blockbusters but average films from the 50's and early 60's, IN THE COOL OF THE DAY was one. Had the LP a long time ago back in my vending days, very good album. played it often. anyone know of this album?

TOM JONES- Pop sensation of the 60's and 70's got a big hit singing the theme song from WHAT'S NEW PUSSYCAT, composed by BURT BACHARACH. DIONNE WARWICK also got a lesser hit song from that film HERE I AM also composed by BURT.PROMISE HER ANYTHING-66- by BURT. Then there was THUNDERBALL-65 by JOHN BARRY. But I always loved TOM JONES song composed by HENRY MANCINI for the film- THE PINK PANTHER STRIKES AGAIN -76 called COME TO ME.it is also one of the funniest scenes in comedy history.

THAT'S LIFE-85-HENRY MANCINI/LESLIE BRUCISSE-TONY BENNETT sang the touching main theme song that says a lot. Did this song and score ever get release on CD? I know it never did on LP. You would think with a popular star like TONY was. someone would have released it.
